Subject: Well I echo that. I've always seen the Guardian, Times and Telegraph as essentially decent because they separate news from opinion. On news alone you'd find it difficult to guess which paper it was from. Sadly the Times and Telegraph are inaccessible behind a paywall now and I won't pay for a subscription. You won't get a balanced view from a tabloid but it was ever thus.
In reply to: Same Old Story 's message, "It was more rhetorical than anything else, but this threads drips with it, and whenever anything political arrives on this forum its the same. I actually agree on much of the news within the guardian, but have found a fair number of the opinion pieces bordering on the offensive. It just astounds me that adults can be so insistent on their opinion, but refuse to read anything that might contradict it. None of this is aimed at you. I think we differ politically, but i find you generally reasonable." on Wednesday, May 06, 09:15:36am

  • Interesting you say this. Guardian reader all my life and wouldn’t read any other paper, but when given different papers by a neighbour to line our cats’ trays (!) started reading the likes of several publications I wouldn’t normally touch with a barge pole. What surprised me was that once you got past the sensationalist headlines many of the opinion pieces were far much considered & nuanced than I thought possible.
