The Portuguese footballing press is just as, if not more creative than the British equivalents. Haven’t said much on this matter but I am probably in the minority insomuch I still want to keep him. I guess I haven’t forgotten the impact of losing Mitro and pallinha in consecutive seasons has made on building the squad for the long term. Add both those players back and do we have a similar season? I also don’t underestimate the impact over a season (especially the beginning) of having players signed early in the window… I really align with Marco in this frustration tbh and I think this is the crux of the whole saga. iirc only Palinha has arrived at a ‘suitable’time- he hit the ground running. I also acknowledge that silva takes almost a year to mould any signing into the side, maybe that’s too long, but the process has worked for the most part.
I also acknowledge where we are now and if if we’re not for his own success we as a supporter base we wouldn’t have the expectations we have now… quite easily could have just scrapped survival our first season back up, instead we were safe at a canter. The cause and effect of that sort of season could of sent us on a very different last few years. But instead, we are stable and have built (not in the greatest way) a solid platform to actually push for Europe instead of just finding ourselves in contention which is how I would describe this and to a degree last couple of seasons..
Of course there are decisions and moves he has made that are baffling both in game and from a lineup perspective and supposed signings but generally he has set our bar, resilience and authenticity much higher than when he arrived.
Finally the lines between which players are who’s signing imagine is less cut and dry as most supporters assume, yes there has been mistakes and over payment, but a lot of that is down to the position we were in(desperate having recently been promoted) and the risk of unproven vs proven PL players while having to stay in the league. We are actually more suited now to make more speculative higher chance of profit signings now than in the last few years imo.
If he does go though, my first choice would be LBM, as for me there has been a loss of spark since his departure- he was a great go between with the Portuguese and arsenal theme to our squad.. this is a loose personal opinion with no statistical or factual data to back it up, but a gut feeling that he is our man even though one hell of a gamble 😂
