Subject: Worth bearing in mind!

According to Transfermarkt our net spend over the last 3 seasons has been circa £110m euros. So an ambitious premier league club (according to our owners) has had an average of €36m euros per season or approx £30m per season. Our first 11 is not (in my opinion) a European side and we have a small squad with very little quality in depth. In truth I’m absolutely gutted on missing out on Europe but when you consider what this squad has achieved to even be in contention and you consider how this manager has worked with effectively one hand tied behind his back I think on balance we should be relatively proud of what has happened on the field. I have no interest in being over critical of our owners but I do feel they need to reassess what their ambitions truly are. There’s been a lot of criticism of Marco messing the club around by stalling on contracts but if you scratch the surface and look a little deeper you will see he turned down a big money job in Saudi and is still haggling despite a big wage on offer from the club. The only logical conclusion is he is holding out for a transfer budget that will see this club progress and possibly sufficient control over players that he feels will deliver that progress and I totally get it.
