Subject: the move comes after the Lisbon club spent weeks trying to convince Amorim to take the job. Benfica president Rui Costa had personally led efforts to bring the former Manchester United manager to the Estádio da Luz. However, Amorim was reluctant, having repeatedly indicated he wanted to remain abroad after leaving Old Trafford. Now the situation appears to have come full circle.

  • An opportunistic approach for last seasons Premier League title winner who unexpectedly came on the market doesn't show a lack of planning. Its shows flexibility. Was always unlikely to come off. He'll end up managing the Netherlands or something so it doesn't seem like a huge drop off. But it was worth a shot. • Nope. Blank canvas. Only 6 days ago did they start responding to approaches from coaches' agents. Previously they had just put the phone down, ignored emails, or responded: 'sorry we are not interesting in talking about any coaches' potential interest. Not until 1 June." That's how it was, and who better than posters on TIFF to be certain of that? (NT) -- b+w g., Saturday, June 06, 01:01:45pm (host86-176-251-213.range86-176.btcentralplus.com/86.176.251.213)
