. "What kind of weapons are you proficient with?" The man called Ravin asked her. "A few of those Sharm carried maces, and we have a few extra swords strapped to camels we left hobbled just outside the ruins. There might also be weapons and armor stored in one of the rooms in this tower that we haven't searched yet."

Jade smiled enigmatically. "What more could I need but my own sweet self?" she asked.

Erlic's scrutiny didn't escape her notice, but she pretended to be oblivious to it. She wasn't sure just what it was about the man that seemed so familiar to her, but all her life her grandmother had told tales of such things. Usually they led to romantic encounters or life-long matings or the like, but Jade wasn't silly enough to believe in such things. Sometimes they were warnings of a more sinister fate. She was sure this was something different. The man radiated an air of dangerous confidence, though, that was unmistakable. She knew he was the type who's bad side she did NOT want to be on.

Finally she allowed herself to return his gaze, looking at him from beneath half-lowered eyelids. She could tell he knew she wasn't telling the entire truth and that he wasn't ogling her nudity, but she pretended nonetheless that she thought he was. "I hope you're getting an eyeful," she said, one eyebrow arching in a questioning glance.

Eventually he turned and walked away. She smiled speculatively, watching him retreat. She had always liked dangerous men.

She turned to watch the cleric cure those who had been infected with the disease ghouls always carried. She was mildly surprised at the man's speech. He sounded foreign in some way... he could barely speak common. I wonder where he came from, she mused.

Tia stepped forward to offer Jade some of her own clothing, but the petite woman's size was simply NOT her own. "If I tried to squeeze into those I'd never be able to breathe," she told the nymphish woman with a twinkle. "But thank you for the offer anyway."

Finally Erlic returned with word that there was an armory of sorts as well as a store of clothes that had presumably been confiscated from other victims of the Sharm's zealous "recruiting" techniques. "Well, maybe they have my things stashed there," she said, already moving toward the door.

“Excellent!” Laurel cried, clapping her hands together. “I, too, am in need of a decent change in clothing. We women cannot stand to parade about in the same outfit for three days straight like you men do, you know. Come along, dearie, let’s go and fetch you something decent to wear.”

Jade chuckled. "You don't like my birthday suit? But I've had it simply for ages."

She caught sight of the dagger that Erlic passed to Ravin. Now THAT was a weapon she wouldn't mind having. But then, she was partial to snakes and the blade reminded her of the lithely curling body of a serpent. Perhaps she could persuade Ravin to let her keep the dagger, or perhaps there was a similar weapon in the weapons room. She made a mental note to look later.

"All right, lead on MacDuff," she said to Laurel, who gave her a puzzled look. Jade chuckled. "Just an expression," she said.

As they made their way to the rooms Erlic had indicated, Laurel surprised her by turning to her and whispering almost conspiratorially, “Now, Miss. Jade, curiosity forces me to inquire as to what type of magic you practice. It’s terribly rude of me to ask, I know, but if you wouldn’t mind, I really am interested in knowing, being a practitioner in the arts myself.”

Jade gave her a sideways look and smiled easily. "That would doubtless be the magic of my feminine charms," she said. This woman was shrewder than she had originally thought. She would have to be on her toes. Eventually she would probably have to tell them, but for now she felt better keeping this particular aspect of herself under wraps. "And you know how feminine charms are," she continued, turning to look Laurel in the eye. "They work best when there's a bit of mystery to them."

The four of them found the clothing stores easily enough and Jade began to look around for her things. They should be right on top somewhere, since until Corum's arrival she had been the most recent potential convert to the Sharms' little cult. Finally she located her things and grinned. "Here they are!" she exclaimed as she gathered up her black doeskin pants, shirt, and boots and pulled them on. Her fingerless gloves and even her serpent jewelry were piled on a table at the back of the room with other accessories. She was pleased to see that they apparently had considered her bracelet merely a bauble. "Wonder why these people keep all this stuff if they're never going to use it," she commented. "You'd think they'd burn it all in some sort of religious frenzy."
