Isobel could tell that Ravin disapproved of her decision to walk on her own, but she could not bear the thought of being carried like some invalid... no, she would just have to keep up. She spoke quietly to him as they readied to depart. "Seņor Ravin, I do appreciate your offer earlier, and I realize it would be a problem if the compaņeros were slowed down because of my injury. I will do my best not to be a burden, but if I am unable to move as quickly as needed I will seek assistance, yes?" She moved into her position in the line and nodded to Alakbar, who had assumed his station next to her.

She was in pain, but she took pride in keeping pace with the group (not realizing that Ravin was moving them along a bit more slowly than usual). When Marz announced that he heard singing, she listened hard but could only hear the sound of the wind in her ears. "Loco," she whispered.

But soon it became clear that Marz was not loco... at least not about that. The floating skull returned from recon and reported a tent camp not far ahead. Secretly she hoped they would be able to rest there. And perhaps they would have one of those magi who could cast healing spells. Then she would not slow them down at all, and perhaps Tia's sight could be restored as well.

When Alakbar announced that the tall humanoids were Jann, she groaned. She hoped these were friendly, not like the Effriti she had encountered several months ago. One of them approached and Ravin spoke to him, then agreed to follow the Jann back to camp to meet with his leader.

Once inside the leader's tent, she looked around. It was decorated richly and she idly wondered where they got their wealth. Could they simply conjure it out of thin air? Or did they make their way by robbing people of their treasures? Would they allow the party to pass to the Sea of Salt and fetch the branches, only to waylay them and steal the magical twigs on the way back?

The leader greeted them then sent them off immediately to the food tent. "He was not very talkative, was he?" She said quietly to Alakbar, who merely shrugged.

"It might be wise to rest here for awhile," Ravin addressed the group. "Those assassins might think twice before trying to attack us while we are surrounded by these huge Jann. This might also give us the opportunity to draw the assassins closer then perhaps WE can sneak up around them and gain the upper hand, especially if Marz can hear their approach."

Isobel took some bread and cheese and some sort of fruit -- she felt famished quite suddenly -- and water to drink. She bit into the fruit and almost moaned in pleasure. It was delicious! She chewed thoughtfully and swallowed before speaking to Ravin. "Can we be certain that these... people... are not merely delaying us so that the assassins can catch up to us? It would be most unfortunate if we had to fight assassins and these Jann together. Or do you think perhaps the Jann would help us if the assassins arrive? It would be most advantageous to have them on our side."

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Barry had been scouting ahead and spotted what looked like a tent city in their path. He quickly flew back to report his findings, only to learn that that berk Marz had already alerted them. Well, at least his information confirmed that Marz wasn't imagining things. Yeah, like that was a big concern to Barry.

When they reached the camp, he floated up and out of sight. Who knew what Jann would think of a floating skull? They might try to use him in some ritual or something. Some cutter came out to meet them and Ravin decided that it was safe to accompany him back to the camp, so Barry floated along above them, trying to stay out of sight.

Finally he saw them enter a big tent, then soon after they all left and went into another tent. He could smell food in there, so he figured they were all chowing down. Well, he would just stay up here and watch to make sure he didn't spot anything hinky going on. And yeah, he'd keep watch for those assassins too. No sense being caught with their pants down, so to speak.

Hey... he saw one of the Jann chits walking around down there. Woohoo they were hot looking in their skimpy outfits and... what was that? He thought he saw something glinting off in the distance behind them. Ehh... he hoped it wasn't the assassins already. He figured they probably wouldn't be so careless as to leave anything shiny uncovered, so it was probably either just the sun reflecting off the sand or something else. He'd keep an eye out (ugh not literally) just to be sure.
