Author: Isobel Delgado
Subject: Misadventures

The caravan had been travelling by the light of the moon across the desert. They had not expected to encounter the sand worms, for the beasts were not known to be active at night. Nonetheless the worms had struck and before the caravan guards could muster a decent response the main wagon carrying the merchant and his wives had been swallowed by the foul beasts!

Isobel leapt at the head of one of the creatures, impaling its black eye with her stiletto, Muerte, but she was forced to pull her blade out and drop to the sand as the gigantic monster dove beneath the desert floor. Hissing a stream of curses, she looked around for the others, but they were nowhere to be seen. The air felt electric with energy and Isobel's skin tingled. "Brujeria!" she whispered as she wiped the sand worm's blood on her thigh, recognizing the familiar feeling that the residues of magic always gave her.

She scoured the area for any sign of other survivors until just before dawn, when she climbed a dune and peered around her. She caught sight of what looked like a dust cloud or perhaps the smoke from fires off in the distance, along with an occasional glint that had to be the reflection off some metal object. Then she made certain she had her canteen (mierda! It was nearly empty) and she set out in the direction of what she assumed was a village.

After a few hours of walking Isobel saw that she was nearing her destination. But something did not seem right. As she drew nearer, she noticed that there were people meandering around but they did not move right. Was this some sort of colony for diseased people? She hoped not, but she had little choice as the heat of the day was fast approaching and she was almost out of water.

Upon entry into the complex she was siezed by unnatural creatures... zombi! her mind screamed. The stench was horrible and she struggled, slashing at them with her blade. But it was to no avail, for the foul creatures were already dead! Isobel cursed as she was overpowered by five of the monsters and dragged to what appeared to be a palace of some kind. She was certain that she was to be imprisoned and loudly demanded to see the fiends' master. They paid her rantings no heed and this made her even more angry. She screamed that she would tear their entrails from their bodies and hang them from them (the fact that these creatures didn't need entrails and probably didn't care if they were hanged or not escaped her grasp at this moment).

The zombies dragged her kicking through a set of doors and into a large building of some sort. She twisted and bit one of them on the hand. Madre del Dios it tasted foul! She spit and wiped her mouth on her cloak. What a foolish thing to do! She hoped she would not contract some disease from the thing.

She was flung face down into a room and left there. Her head hit the floor hard and she lay dazed for a moment, then pulled her hands beneath her body and pushed herself up, looking around. To her great surprise she found herself in what appeared to be a dining hall, being stared at by a number of people who were in the middle of a meal, by the look of it.

She stood up as gracefully as she could, picked up Muerte and brushed herself off. She faced the people and put her hands on her hips, drawing herself up to her full five feet in height and giving them her most intimidating look. "My name is Isobel Maria Contadina Phillipa Manuela Esteban y Delgado. Your disgusting zombies have captured me. I demand to be freed immediately!"
