Subject: Here We Go Again!
History is repeating itself. Just like WWDB about 6 years ago, WPHT is holding a cattle call audition for the next “Big Talker.” The offer is a clone of the WWDB stunt, with the “winner” getting a contract and a show. Remember what happened at WWDB? Hundreds auditioned, no one was hired and the brilliant program director who thought up the stunt was fired a few weeks later. Gotta love Beasley.
So, without further ado, here are the Top Ten Reasons NOT to audition to be the next “Big Talker.”
10. “Anthony the Overqualified Intern” might bomb out of his residency and come back as your producer.
9. A bitter Larry Mendte could sneak into the building with a loaded Uzi.
8. Mel looks very healthy, that means you’re stuck with Imus as a morning man for all eternity.
7. You’ll probably have to follow Michael Smerconish.
6. Might step on one of those sticky places in the hallway they still blame on John Bolaris.
5. Dominic Quinn regularly comes back from the dead to challenge new talk hosts to a never-ending game of Pictionary.
4. Glenn Beck, Glenn Beck, Glenn Beck!
3. Studio extremely small and uncomfortable due to permanent "Yes" memorial erected by Michael Smerconish.
2. Chair has smelly, permanent impression of The Sport’s Babe’s ass.
And, the #1 reason NOT to audition to be the next Big Talker:
Simon Cowell is judging the auditions!

This is freakin' funny! The fact that Glenn Beck, Michael Smerconish and Lynn Doyle are the judges is even funnier. Check out Lynn's new book, "How to Make It On Your Own," with a special introduction written by Nancy Sinatra. -- Talk Radio Geek, 11:25:21 05/29/03 Thu

Beck a judge of talent -- Captn Hank, 12:07:11 05/29/03 Thu
Give me a break. No need in me signing up for audition. I would want to "B!tch Slap" him across the table. Sorry Surf, I couldn't help myself.

Lynn Doyle -- Captn Hank, 12:10:20 05/29/03 Thu
I heard a good one the other night. She was described as being the dumbest thing on cable tv, even below the Animal Planet.

More Important -- Guy, 14:35:39 05/29/03 Thu
More important than who IS a judge, is who is NOT a judge! Did Katz and Dom refuse to get invloved with this crap or did the station, as usual, exclude them! Seriously now, how long before these two guys quit?

HEY, I like Animal Planet. No need to insult it. The Crocodile Hunter will get you for that. Next thing you know, you'll be bad-mouthing the Food Channel. -- SurveyGuy, 21:31:15 05/30/03 Fri

Dumb As Dirt -- Gayle, 17:07:12 06/04/03 Wed
She is so dumb, she has to have her producer reminding her who she is married to. Did she really write a book? Or did her producer ghost write it for her? How can she possibly judge talent? What qualifies her, the fact that she is married to the Comcast boss!

I don't care what you say about Lynn.. -- Ratso Rizzo, 00:55:07 05/30/03 Fri
She still looks tasty in those sweaters, and sometimes that blouse w/ leather jacket over-top. That is all I watch for. The hoop earrings are a classic. My TV screen fogs up Every time.. Thank U CN-8
And what does the "8" in CN-8 really mean? Really...It appears on cable channel 18 in my system

Lynn -- Captn Hank, 02:09:31 05/30/03 Fri
Okay.... I give her credit for her looks. But, from someone in the know, I'm told she doesn't look that good in person. She reminds me of girl I took to a party at the U of P, back in the 70's. I told her to just smile and not to get into a conversation with anyone. She was a looker, especially in the mini-skirts, but dumb as hell. She might be a Beck listener now.

Figured you'd like this, Cap'n... overheard on the Neal Boortz show today. CALLER: "I'd listen to you more often if you were on in St. Louis, but instead we get Glenn Beck." BOORTZ: "Ewwwww..." -- "Vince From Villanova" (Member of the Church of the Painful Truth), 01:06:38 05/31/03 Sat

Beck -- Captn Hank, 12:20:39 06/08/03 Sun
I just returned from a cruise to the Caribbean on the Radisson Diamond. While enjoying some nice Cuban cigars with some fellow passengers, the subject of talk radio and politics came up. All of us were starved for news, and the names of Rush and Hannity came up. I was waiting for someone to bring up the Beck name. A doctor from NYC didn't let me down. His first question, who is this Glenn Beck character? Do we really need a comedian to promote conservative talk radio? Out of the 6 guys around the bar, none were supportive of Beck. Quite naturally this made my evening and gave me a chance to vent my feelings about him.
Hillary took the center stage for the remainder of the cruise.

What was the name of that cruise. The "Boring Conservative Old Farts of the Sea". You go on vacation and you've got nothing better to do than sit around and bitch about Hilary Clinton and Glenn Beck. Sounds like a thrill a minute to me. The only thing that would have made it better would be if G. Gordon Liddy was doing one of his cruise seminars too. -- Thinking Out Loud, 18:39:20 06/08/03 Sun

Good Grief....! -- Captn Hank, 20:21:37 06/08/03 Sun
I guess you have never been on a cruise. You meet and strike up conversations with many interesting people from all over the world. Politics, war, and the economy were a concern to all. We want to be able to plan next year's vacation. Sources of the news also came into the conversation.
I'm also proud to be part of your so called, "Boring Conservative Old Farts of the Sea". My kind of people. I don't think you and I would fare too well in close quarters. Let's please keep it that way.....!

WPHT -- Dino, 15:23:16 05/31/03 Sat
The mentality that sunk WWDB as a viable talk station is now alive and well at WPHT. A new broom sweeps clean and not until that is done will there be a chance for decent 35+ talk radio in the Delaware Valley. WWDB had a wealth of talent until out-of-town ownership showed up. All the local talent at PHT would fit in a phone booth. Facts on the ground are hard for some to deal with. In a market the size of Philadelphia there should be at least two good talk stations. THERE ARE NONE.
