Subject: Kudos to Smerconish (A positive first step)

As I was waiting for Mr. Katz to begin his show, (Dom G. filled in today) I listened to the last 15 minutes of Smerconish's program. He refered to himself as "a shameless self-promoter" in a jesting way and then commenced to inform his listening audience on what cable programs he is scheduled to appear in the near future. I got a kick out of it.

Earnest self-directed humor picked from message boards is one way to diffuse an image tarnished by a truculent wish to extinguish any trace of constructive criticism by the masses who listen to radio shows. Good for you Mike. Now if you can keep Pat Croce and the other jetsam and flotsam of insufferable local Philadelphia bores off your show I will know you are on the right track.

[> Shameless Self Promoter -- Wait a minute. Wasn't just before the WPHT financed road trip/vacation to AC and OC that Smerconish swore off promoting his TV show appearances? Something about being cancelled hours before appearing with Al Sharpton? -- Tim Koret, 22:15:12 09/05/02 Thu

[> I don't see improvement just because he "laughs" about his "shameless self-promotion." He still does it. IMO, Smerconish is about Smerconish- first, last, always. Whether it's milking the Faulkner case, turning the Sept. 11th tragedy into a publicity gimmick, or his media employment (and boy, he gets a lot of jobs , but there always seems to be a falling out - just look at WWDB, PHT, NBC-10, and Ch 6), somebody or something is always being used solely for personal gain. -- Louis, 17:38:06 09/06/02 Fri

[> [> So, would MAS make it on real TV? You know, replace Ray Romano with Michael Smerconish? Everybody Loves Michael. As his brother would say, it's all about Michael. And yes, he can change his mind, but HE was so ADAMANT the last time. -- Tim Koret, 23:25:00 09/07/02 Sat

[> I heard the original and recent shows. First he was scheduled to be on the air, a promotional email was sent out (the stations almost expect that) then the segment was cut. Smerc justifiably vented. I am with him 100% on that. His recent comments were about being on CNN (not MSNBC who cut his bit) so it's not a change really. He's been on CNN each Sunday morning for what? over 2 months now? He'd be a fool not to hump that. -- Surf <<<------ still waiting for ANY cable news show to call...., 18:34:20 09/08/02 Sun

[> [> And By The Way...
I rather watch Smerconish on CNN than Geraldo "Capone's Vault" Rivera or Phil "Its so OVER" Donahue or Greta "OJ made me a name" Sustern any day of the week.
However his views on Serena Williams new outfit does trouble me.

[> [> [> Surf, can you clarify this line: "his views on Serena Williams new outfit does trouble me."? Is this referring to Smerconish? If so, can someone tell me what he said? I missed it. -- Koaup, 07:11:38 09/09/02 Mon

[> [> [> [> I mistyped, It was Venus Williams and her new leather, form fitting tennis outfit. SMERC was on CNN and had the last word on a roundtable discussion. They asked the panel about this and he had only enough time for,,,, "She's Hot." ..... It loses something in the translation, you really had to watch the show, timing was everything. -- Surf <<< like strong women and has the scars to prove it., 08:23:51 09/09/02 Mon

[> [> [> [> [> I know that I'm probably in the minority but I don't think that Venus (or Serena) are that bad (i.e. ugly). Would I use the word "hot"? Well - no, that word could only be used for black women like Halle Berry (even though I think she's nuts), Tyra Banks, or Vanessa Williams. -- Koaup, 12:09:01 09/09/02 Mon
