Subject: Did The Coalition to Ban Rich Now Finally Strike???

A number of recent (and hysterical) Rich posts and threads have completely disappeared. It appears the Coalition has decided to flex its powerful muscles. Too bad- those goofy posts and witty responses were becoming my favorite part of the Rant & Rave Wall.

Here's the short story.

One of the factors that rules whether the board is moderated or not is my spare time and the time of those that help run and contribute to the site. For my site I do what interests me; what I have time to do; what people want to read ... more or less in that order. What people want to say is still on my list of priorities but less important if what they want to say takes up more and more of my spare time to monitor. My spare time goes elsewhere when I have enough people to run the board. When people are away (like now) AND the posts become combative or downright libelous it takes more of my time to constantly check the posts. (Remember free speech does not apply here, that's not what the Constitution says, go read it) This alone would be reason enough to set the board to moderated status.

Naturally people are curious, I don't blame you. Some of the witty flames were indeed fun. Some of what Rich had hurled at him was deserved considering how he couldn't help but throw a knife into Katz's back at almost every opportunity. Those were never much of a problem. Rich can still hype Smerc till the cows come home but he won't be allowed to cheap shot Katz either.

I don't have a problem with people taking me to task either. The post alluding to me wearing aluminum foil on my head and being immersed in a pro-war conspiracy was clever, amusing, biting, and fun to read. What IS tedious is the childish, nasty, or profane comments. If people want to criticize (me or anybody else) at least use your brain and TRY to be original and craft your comments accordingly. I lack the free time to babysit people unwilling to follow any civilized guidelines. I've got three kids already among other responsibilities. It all has to do with what I can get done in my spare time AND more importantly what people visiting the site are willing to take the time to read. The posts MUST be worth reading or readership dwindles. I can prove the visits drop when the posts get out of hand, people do tune them out. It's funny to me that the same ones that so desperately want their views read can't put their opinions together in a manner worth the time to read. The title is not called "Unlimited hateful drivel" .. that's already been done, go post there.

That's the short story. You likely never saw the posts that went over the line. Many of the acceptable posts were dumped when the infected threads were cleaned out. You, Madison, etc. are not a problem, neither really is Rich (people love to hate him) nor are the posts that trash me (bring it on, I'm a big boy, just make it worth my while or you BORE me).

Additionally I've become immersed in this Oklahoma City bombing and the Middle East connection. That alone would take me many days of free time to properly evaluate and communicate to you. What I learned there and what I already know (running this site has it's privileges information-wise) has me convinced there is something more that needs to be done in this area. Half my free online time will go toward this now.

So post whatever you wish and if I or one of my willing and available staff can get to it the posts will go through. Those posts that contain profanity, libelous content, or some petty grudges will take longer to get to or never go up at all. Make it worth OUR time and you get your views read by FIVE THOUSAND people every week. I think that's the least I can expect from people. As helpers come back (or get well) the board goes back to fee status, we do have a life you know and I won't waste their time to make anonymous and hateful people happy.
