Hi everyone... I am looking for info on Aquarian Associates and their reputation. There isn't much at all on thier website to check on.

Has anyone dealt with them? Are they good? I took my daughter to an open call they had and it seemed very professional and now they are interested in her, but I would like to have an idea if they are reputable or not.

If anyone can reply on them at all, I would really appreciate it! I am supposed to meet with them on Tuesday.

Also, how do you guys find out about auditions and stuff? I just happened to find this site. I am always looking for stuff like auditions and can never find them... Any advice?

Thanks. :)

Everytime they come to town we go to their casting call we always get a letter to come back and talk to them and it is always the same pitch.... Oh and then they will tell you the story about a mom who approached a judge and her kid lost a major movie part because one of the rules is never approach anyone except the snake oil salesman Sam if you have any questions. So tell me do you want to get involved with someone so petty and deceitful and basically a liar

My daughter (10 y/o) and I attended the Great American Model and Talent Search this past weekend (11/19/04) in LA along with my neighbor and her five y/o son. I've been reading alot of e-mails about how this company is a scam. I believe differently and just feel that they are disappointed that nothing really became of what they had hoped for and/or because they didn't get thousands of dollars for their child's role in a part. After the search, my neighbor's son was told he would be getting a letter. Unfortunately, my daughter's name was not called. I do realize that they say that just because their name was not called, does not mean it's the end...it's an on-going process. My concern is my daughter cried and cried after returning to our room and could not understand why her name was not called. She told me she had tried very hard and then asked if whether or not she was beautiful and wondered why she was good enough to attend the search but not good enough to win. We went into this knowing that there are no guarantees and we were looking at it as a mother and daughter vacation. I guess she forgot about that conversation. I did what I could to make her feel better and she apparently is doing better, but what do I do if they never call her and she wants to attend another open call? Should I allow her to go, in fear she would not get called again and her self esteem plumits? PLEASE ADVISE.

That's how these things work. EVERYONE gets a letter. Just a few weeks later. They'll say something like they reconsidered etc. Tell her what a scam is and how she can still dream and work for her goal. But that some people are out to hurt innocent people, especially children. That it has nothing to do with her & yes she is beautiful. Sounds more to me like you are more hurt than your child perhaps. By the time you read this she will probably have that letter or phone call or email.

My name is Joanne Lynch, this posting was not made by me nor did I know anything about it, I just found it here one day. Strangely some of the info is true, how it got there however is a mystery to me.My son is an actor, he has done the Great American Model and Talent Search, he has several agents all over the United States, some of them due to the Model and Talent Search. He has also appeared on television many times. The Search jump started my sons career. In my opinion the real Joanne Lynch the Great American Model and Talent Search was a very good thing for my son to do.

I don't know who wrote this, but my name is spelled with an E at the end and my son Tayler has an E in his name, not an O. This just goes to show you that anyone can post anything. You decide what to believe or not.My son is an actor, and doing well. He has partisipated in the search several times. I am glad that he did, and we have no complaints.

However I must say I have participated in a legitimate model search. You never have to PAY to get work. That makes no sense and anyone defending this lame concept has no legitimacy. Parents, models, actors you do not need to pay and children do not need expensive headshots or any convention to learn to model!

Here is another thought. Yes the spellings of both my son's and my name are uncommon. We don't pay lots of money for expensive headshots. We get them in Los Angeles for almost no cost at all. Last but not least, my son is an actor not a model. Thanks for your concern.

Our son also got a callback and we went to the meeting yesterday. It was very informative...but we now have to make a decision if we want to continue with them because they are asking for 490.00 to cover all the costs of pictures. They make sure you know that they are NOT an agency. They are pretty much like promotors FOR the agency. This 490.00 will cover all costs to attend the event in L.A. where the agencies will be there to look at your child to see if they want you. I'm currently doing research to find out if this is worth it...because I've been scammed before! Hope this info is helpful.

Hi, going to this meeting should be harmless if they ask for money it might be a scam. There's this thing called ProScout, they help find models and acters for agencies. You go to an open call if choosen you are given info about a ProScout event on the spot. It cost about $500 please hotel fees (if you stay in one) and the price of food. The people are pretty nice and they have helped discover tons of models and acters. I went to their event and now I'm being followed by two modeling agencies. Anyway they explain it better then I do if you want to check it out their wedsite is http://www.proscout.com Hope I helped somebody.

Peace out,
Hannah

Stephanie,
I went to an open call with my daughter in New Orleans. We are are going to Little Rock for Jan. 07 invitational. I did some modeling when I was younger, so I know a bit about what she is in for. They are not exactly a scam... but slick. I wouldn't even dream of going for acting. It is too subjective and you only have a short monologue to prove yourself. Modeling is about a look and has more criteria. Height, weight etc.If you don't meet the criteria don't waste the $$$. It is expensive, but I think she has a chance and it is easier to go the convention than to do it all myself!

I just read what you wrote. Im trying to get into the Modeling world too,but DONT PAY THEM ANYTHING!!!! No one should have to pay anything. An agent is suppose to do that for you if they want to get you work. Proscout and Model Search NYC all tell you that you got want it take and that they invite you to a convention. NO one get picks its ALL a scam. No REAL modeling agency is goin to the STUPID convention to look for models. Real Model agency have open calls at their company, so would go there. DONT waste your time and MONEY on these things because you dont get anywhere. Tyra Bank said that you dont pay any money and its true.

I went to one of these open calls with my 5'9" 13 year old daughter. She made it through first interview and was asked to go to another where the "top" agencies would be. For $400 we could have a photo session done and use the pics for the interview. I called local modeling agencies to check the guy out. Level Modeling said she knew Dwight Young and said "oh, now he's selling photo packs." She said you should NEVER pay for these things. Agencies make money by booking jobs. You should NEVER pay any money up front. She recommended we have prof pics done if we could but stressed to NEVER pay money at open calls.

We went to an Aquarian Associates open casting call in Oakland, CA (mid-Sept) and received a "favorable evaluation" form letter regarding our daughter. We are invited to a meeting Oct. 12th in Hayward, CA.

After reading some info. on how legitimate talent agents work, my gut tells me this one is a scam. The tacky form letter made me suspicious to begin with...

I did some additional research and found out that at this meeting we will be invited to their annual Event held in LA., CA., and PA. However to participate in this event you are required to pay a non refundable registration fee (it doesn't say how much). And all expenses to and from the event are at the participant's expense. I found this information at this link: http://www.pittsburgh.bbb.org. I hope this helps you make up your mind, as I don't want to waste a bunch of my time either.

I have looked on the web, but cannot find a website for this company. All I can find is their listing in the Pittsburgh BBB (Better Business Bureau website at http://www.pittsburgh.bbb.org) under serveral names: "MTM", "Model & Talent Management Agency", "American Modeling, Inc." and "Model Management". The write-up from the BBB was "Satisfactory". Not sure what to make of it.

Aquarian associates AKA Great American model and talent.
Big Scam....
i wish i would have known then, what I know now.
That $480.00 that I spent on that model search in L.A.
The travel pay from Oakland and motel stay. Put my family back $900.00.
That didnt included the fact that we had to pay to get in the hall where the seach was being held. 30.00 a person.(mother, husband, brother and myself 3x4 = $120.)

My daughter Imani 3yrs old.At the time she was
almost 2. We had big hopes.
when they where calling of the numbers of the ones they chose for on camera. I crossed my finger. her number was called.
When they where calling names for opportunities. I held my mothers hand and closed my eyes. Her name was called. Did I hear from them again? yes.
4 months later for $250.00 for an open call the next year. I just wish more people spoke up then.

THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. AMD FOR MY SON. HE FIRST COMPETED WHEN HE WAS 2, NOW HE HAS 5 AGENTS, 12 COMMERCIALS 4 OF THOSE ARE NATIONALS, 8 MUSIC VIDEOS AND 3 TV SHOWS AND NUMEROUS PRINT ADS HE IS EVEN FEATURES ON BILLBOARDS. I UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYONE HAS OPIONS AND THAT WE ALL THINK THAT OUR CHILDREN ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OR HANDSOME AND MOST TALENTED BUT THAT IS OUR PARENT FEELINGS. TYLER HAS BEEN GOING TO THE SEARCHES SINCE HE WAS 2 HE IS NOW ALMOST 8. IF I HAD NOT ATTENDED THE SEARCH THEN THE AGENT WHO SIGNED HIM FIRST WE WOULD OF NEVER SEEN. IF SOMETHING DOESN'T GO OUR WAY SOMETIMES IN HASTE WE SAY THINGS THAT WE MIGHT REGRET. I HAVE LEFT MY EMAIL AND IF THEY ARE ANY PEOPLE WHO READ THIS AND HAVE QUESTIONS EMAIL ME PLEASE, PUT AQUARIAN IN THE SUBJECT LINE. AS FAR AS THE NAME BEING CALLED SOMETIMES IT CAN BE IMMEDIATELY AND IT CAN GO BEYOND THAT. SOME AGENTS AND SCOUTS GO BACK AFTER THE SEARCH AND COMPILE ALL THE INFO NEEDED FOR A PROJECT AND THIS COULD TAKE SOME TIME. ALSO THEY TOLD PEOPLE ONCE THAT THEY GO TO THE SEARCH THEN THEY ARE OFFERED A DISCOUNT TO COME BACK. IT IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY. JUST LOOK AT IT ANOTHER WAY, IF YOU HAD TO GO TO NEW YORK OR TO LA AND STAY FOR AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME AND PAY FOR PICTURES THAN YOU ALREADY MAXED WHAT THE SEARCH COST, NOT TO MENTION THE TIME. SO AGAIN I SAY THIS HAS BEEN AMAZING AND IF YOU..... BELIEVE IN YOUR CHILD THAN YOU JUST LISTEN TO YOUR HEART AND NOT ANGRY PEOPLE'S WORDS.

To Charlotte Davis:
I have seen this same message on other websites slamming Aquarian Associates(www.modelforums.com). Is this what you do all day? Sit at your computer and reply to everyone who are weary of this company? Do they pay you to do this? You say your sons name is Tyler? I have been to the Aquarian Associates casting call where I also was invited to a presentation. At the presentation, they showed a video of some success stories, one of which was a little boy named Tyler for a NASCAR commercial for which he was shown for about 2 seconds. If I am not mistaken, that is your son right? (If not I apologize)But, at the end of the presentation, you came in and spoke to everyone IN PERSON about how your son "made it" which sounded very well rehearsed. Now, I did believe you, until I'm starting to see your messages on different websites stating the same exact thing. It is VERY suspicious that you were at the presentation for Aquarian As. along with Tyler, and now I am seeing your messages all over the web replying to anyone with some kind of doubt about Aquarian Associates. Also, you clearly stated that this company didn't make you pay a dime... then within the last 5 minutes of the presentation, they asked for a $485.00 payment, a $240.00 down payment, or a $199.00 down payment to where you can pay the rest later!!! I'm not 100% sure, but something is definitly wrong with this shit.

I just attended this search as well. My son got a call back so we went and listened with open minds. After personally speaking with Charlotte and her answering all of my questions, my husband and I decided to go back the next day and sign our son up for the Pittsburgh convention. The only thing that made me second guess was that I thought my 6:00 meeting was the only meeting for all call backs-come to find out, call backs were all day. I didn't like that idea! As far as I'm concerned had Aquarian Associates not done this, we would not have pursued it. My son is 11 months, very handsome, great personality and a happy baby. All in all he has great stage presence and is photogenic. I thought, what do we have to lose? The only thing I got from any of the meetings and info we received from Aquarian is that they promise us EXPOSURE and EXPOSURE only. If we can get our son exposed to this many agents, casting directors and producers he's bound to have a better chance! We are in it for the fun if nothing else. Everyone doesn't make it no matter how cute we think our children are. I do believe Charlotte and Taylor are regular down-to-earth people and that she IS NOT being paid for her story. She attended a convention just like you and me and they were lucky and got chosen. It could happen to any of us!

I also got the letter that my child was accepted. Like everyone else, I paid the money. The company requires the money up front and I had no time to do research on the company. After doing research and coming up on several sites with nothing good to say, I called the company and demanded my money back. I really do not think the company is completely a scam, you do get exposure that 20 seconds you are on stage, but after that I don't THINK they continue to try to get you jobs. Yea they update your photos every year, but they should if you are having to pay 500-600 dollars a year to attend the convention. Needless to say, I threatened to file a report with the Better Business Bureau if I did not get the money back. The company sent me an email saying I had been credited. They game me no problems at all. Just throwing this out there for anyone else having doubts. Its probably not too late if you have already paid the money. I'm not sure why it was so easy, maybe this is how they stay in good standings with the Better Business Bureau. The only request from the company is that they get their contract back. I'm not sure why this is of such importance. Is this the ticket to get in the door to the conference? Since I received no tickets after paying, I am wondering how you prove you were offered the opportunity to attend. Is they a list with everyones name on it? I would love to hear from anyone else that has attended. Thanks!!!

The company hit Hampton, VA last week. The cost was $629 to get your child "exposure" at the convention in PA. We decided not to do it. I think we can accomplish the same thing by taking some head shots and sending them to agencies.

If I had read this message board first I never would have gone to the open call.

IT IS SO EASY TO GET MEMBERSHIP WITH THE BBB IN PA. GETTING MEMBERSHIP FROM THE BBB IN PA DOES NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO INDICATE, MUCH LESS PROVE A COMPANY IS LEGITIMATE.

THEY GIVE MEMBERSHIP TO AT LEAST THREE ADVANCE-FEE COMPANIES:

1. WISH NETWORK (MODELREP.COM)
2. HIGHLITE "AGENCY" (HIGHLITE.COM)
3. AQUARIAN ASSOCIATES

OTHER BBB OFFICES IN THE COUNTRY WOULD NEVER GIVE ANY OF THESE COMPANIES MEMBERSHIP!

just wanted you to know that I just went to their informational meeting tonight after getting the "call back". They wanted $485.00 for the reg. fee for their convention, plus the ticket price to get in - $55.00; and we have to pay all our travel expenses. I read an article that stated, interestingly enough, that Aquarian Associates donates money to the Pittsburg BBB.... mmmmmm..... http://www.pittsburgh.bbb.org/information.asp?ID=30&IDDoc=43
there's the link....

I took my 4 yr. old twins to a casting call in Oakland, Ca. & received a letter from them 1 week later. I was asked to attend a meeting in Hayward because my twins had a "favorable evaluation" also. Is this company a scam? Has anyone attended their meeting? If so, please post some info about this company.

Thanks!!

I am here looking for information on the company and this is the closet I have gotten. I have been told in the past that if someone is interested in your child your money should not leave your pocket.

I have been searching all morning for info on this company. They have invitited our daughter to attend the big convention in June. I have read about 100 of these same messages. As I was reading all of these horrible reviews I noticed that there were only two positive ones. Strangely they had the same text, but were supposed to be from two different parents and two different children. They are posted in different places. One is on this very page and the other is: http://www.voy.com/139749/372.html Then I noticed the date and time of each. They were posted on the same day 8 minutes apart. Do you smell a rat?

We live in Denver - We have went through the entire process and will be going to LA next month. Scam or not, I forsee it as a small price to pay for a chance of adventure for our son. If our son gets selected awesome - If not, so be it. You don't get ahead in life without taking chances. I'll be sure to come back and post afterwards. Anyway, got relatives in LA, so we are making it a nice vacation while we are there. Good luck to everyone and remember, people talk more about a negative experience than a positive expierence.

Its really amazing to me that people believe everything they read on the internet forum sites. It really takes someone who cannot think for themselves. Example--most of these people post their opinions, notice I said opinions- but they alway's remain annonomous. I may agree with some of the comments, however anyone who is afraid to identify themselves and claim they are a exemployee of someone , sound very suspicious to me. I currently am in the business mostly on the west coast, and I can tell you that the only way to enter this business is to be seen by people that actually function in this business. I know numerous casting directors, agents, production people, advertising agencies etc, that attend numerous model searches. It saves them alot of time and expense. most searches have major expenses that need to be covered. therefore the need for fees. Agents earn there living when their clients work.
Many people go to L.A. during pilot season & spend thousands getting in front of a handful of agents etc. certainly searches are a fraction of the cost and a extreme fraction of the time. Regarding this so called exemployee, I always thought pittsburg or pittsburgh didn't have an h . I guess you would have to be from pitt to know this info. This person needs to either get a backbone. Or better yet, for people who question any company whoever they are, use common sense and check unbiased sources, Not someones unidentifiable statements because they are obviously a disgrutled person. Unbiased sources=real agents, casting directors, better business bureau, attorney generals. etc.
Once again don't believe everything you read. Because its on tv, or newspaper or especially a unregulated source like the internet, doesn't make it true!

Aquarian Associates is a SCAM! Let me tell you my story...
There was a casting call I heard on the radio. I took my daughter to see what it was all about. They were interested in her and we got a call back letter. Very excited we attended a meeting of about 30 parents or so, and they made it seem like our children were the "only" children picked from the casting call. (Later I found out there were several meetings that day and they called back just about every gullible parent that walked through the door) After showing us a poorly made film and a somewhat convincing speech we received a piece of paper telling us that our children were invited to Los Angeles California to meet top industry modeling agents and movie producers. Then there was a price. A $400+ entry fee, plus airfare, plus hotel stay. They tried to make it sound good by saying the pictures were free of charge. Pictures that I have never seen of my own child! Needless to say I bought the whole thing and my daughter and I flew our way to L.A. My daughter competed against about 400 other 2 & 3 year olds in a 3 hour period, which they saw each child about 20 seconds top. Then at the end they pick around 30 kids who are suppossed to get opportunities. We were picked and a couple of months later they wanted my daughter to be in an advertisement for them, advertising for next years show! But they wanted me to pay half of the entry fee for next years show in order for her to be in this so called advertisement. I did not buy it this time and sent them the letter back with a letter fom me telling them how I felt. Let me tell you from experience this is a big waste of money and I strongly advise all parents to be aware of Aquarian Associates*aka* The Great American Model & Talent Search. Please email me if you have any more questions

yes the fortune was being and still is being granted to aquarian associates. i took tyler to the search when he was 2 and now he is 8 i still take him to the searches and everytime, tyler has bigger and better ops. i just took him to the one in june in pittsburg and he signed with one of the top 3 agencies in la and he is on his way to california for 3 months for pilot season. they opened the door and put tyler's foot in they gave us the exposure that we needed and if it was not for them i do not think that tyler would of been where he is today.

THE BEST ADVICE THAT I COULD GIVE THAT HELPS CUT OUT A LOT OF THE MIDDLE WORK IS TO GO TO ONE OF THE SEARCHES IF YOU GET THE CHANCE. THEY PROVIDE A LOT OF THINGS FOR YOU SO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY THAT AND THE TIME FRAME IS CUT DRASTICALLY. ALSO YOUR CHILD WILL BE SEEN BY ANYWHERE FROM 20 TO 35 DIFFERENT AGENCIES AND SCOUTS THAT ARE COMING SPECICALLY LOOKING TO HIRE THERE NEW TALENT.

HE IS P FOR 6 NEW NATIONAL COMMERCIALS AND ALSO A NEW WALT DISNEY MOVIE. HE AUDITIONED IN NEW ORLEANS FOR IT AND OUT OF 25 BOYS TYLER IS IS THE TOP 4, IT IS CALLED STUCK IN THE SUBURBS, SO IT IS A GREAT INVESTMENT AND THE BEST THING THAT I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MY CHILD'S FUTURE BESIDES GIVING HIM BIRTH!!!

I pray to god that this isn't a scam. I met you & your son Tyler at a casting call in Albuquerque, N.M. I tried to do research by checking with the better business buearo but for some reason the systems were down and couldn't tell me anything but there was that fee to be paid $650.00. So we went ahead and paid it. I just happened to check the website and i saw all this is all a SCAM. From one mother to another what would you think? There's innocent children involved, how would you feel if this was done to your child.

I can't believe after reading all of this blog, what a scam they have going. We live in NC and went to an open casting call and guess what Tyler and his mom supposed NC natives and currently living in NC was there shining example of how you can succeed with them. Poor Tyler, I hope he doesn't get caught up in the middle of it when the adults involved get caught in this big illegal scam they are pulling. All of the people in the video were either filmed in the same courtyard or same dinette set. A little coincedental don't you think. There are about 100 sites stating what a scam they are! Charlotte, Tyler's mom if she her son is doing so wonderful and this is legitimate why would she have to check off attendees on a handwritten list at these casting calls. You would think she would have better things to do. I am sure like the program says if you have all the time to run around to casting agencies across the U.S. then you can get your child these opportunities. The sad part is that she is using our hard earned money to pay for her own child's opportunities!!! I hope this scam gets blown out of the water. I saw so many parents that looked like they were struggling financially and they were taking their money. Using a cell phone to call in credit card transactions, with handwritten instructions, promoting the fact that they will accept post dated checks!!! Of cours they will, they want your money. In addition, if you do decide to fall for this scam after at this time you pay $685 to attend the Model Show in Pittsburgh. You the parent have to pay and additional $85 to watch your child audition per person. What a money making scam!!!!!! I feel sorry for those parents that fell for it and used their last dollar to do it!!!!

I would be ashamed, if I were you. You have no right to talk about a child. Yes Charlotte, and Tyler live in NC. I know them. She got my daughter started in this business. You saw his workings on the tape that you mentioned and yes many of those people were filmed at the same time. Makes it easier to get people from all over the USA in one place to film. Tyler is caught....In A Great Career. Did you even talk to Charlotte about anything or were you one of the people who walk by and never understand anything. There are plenty talent searches out there and yes they are profitable businesses. Would you work at your job without making any money? I think not. We all think that our children deserve the world and if they do not get it we start a rant. We get mad at out bosses, spouses, even our children because they do not give us what we THINK that we deserve, but are they SCAMS? No! i just think that there are way too many people in this world that think the world owes them, that is the problem. We pay for everything that we do in this life so how is this any different. They do not promise you success, jobs, careers, and they plainly tell you that they are not agents. Isn't that proof enough that they are what they say........ A Model and Talent Search Convention?

MY DAUGHTER ALEXANDRIA HAS DONE THE SEARCHES NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE PEOPLE ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND THE AGENTS AND SCOUTS WHO COME TO THE SEARCHES ARE AWESOME. VERY HIGH CALIBER. SINCE DOING THE FIRST SEARCH ALEX HAS MANY COMMERCIALS, BEEN IN A MOVIE, BEEN ON SHOWTIME AT THE APPOLLO, SIGNED WITH MANY AGENTS AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF WORKING IN LA. SO I DO THINK THAT IF YOU ARE POSITIVE AND BELIEVE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS THE TALENT THAT IT COULD WORK FOR YOU. LIFE IS A SACRIFICE AND YOU HAVE TO PUT THINGS OUT THERE FOR ANYTHING TO HAPPEN. THE AQUARIAN SEARCH IS A GREAT OPPOURTUNITY AND ONE THAT YOU SHOULDN'T PASS UP.

Yes... I agree; I think it is some compnay rep trying to do damage control. All CAPS.. with glowing "follow your heart" bunch of crap. I went to their first meeting - knew a bunch of BS when I see it. Their invitation letter goes to great lengths warning you not to call hotel or check or call on them ahead of time. I did anyway and found from hotel clerk that they were in town for three days two shifts processing talent wanna-bee's like dumb sheep. I believe their business is the wanna-bee's not the royaltys from rare success hits from time to time.

I would like to share my experience with the Aquarian Associates Great American Model and Talent Search.

We live in the Pittsburgh area and first learned of the open casting call on a radio advertisement for the Aquarian Associates Great American Model and Talent Search. We took our four year old son to the event which was held at a local hotel where they first had the children approach a panel of so called industry professionals. The children were introduced and asked some basic questions along with some small talk. Next, they were instructed to walk across the room for a brief video filming where the photographer asked them their name, favorite food, friends etc. The first "hook" was cast when one of the industry professionals told me that my son was amazing and how would we feel about a trip to Hollywood?. The second hook came while we were in the lobby getting our coats on when one of the Aquarian Associates staff (who we later found out was the president's wife) informed us that the woman who made the fuss over our son was a casting director for the Power Rangers TV show and very seldom gives out compliments. Well, after that I was star struck! Hell, at that point they probably could have taken me for 3 times the amount we eventually paid! There was even an embarrassing scene where two parents and their children were asked to leave due to the children misbehaving. The president of Aquarian Associates became very loud as if he wanted everyone to see and hear him. It was almost like he was acting. Looking back, my husband now feels that the whole thing could have been staged to give the other parents a feeling of confidence knowing that their children were model citizens, very cooperative and well behaved.

As anyone would have guessed, we received our letter a few days later informing us that our son received a favorable review and invited us to the parent's meeting. The meeting was held at their Pittsburgh office where the red carpet was rolled out with all the visual effects (movie posters, advertisements etc). It was a small group with about 15 parents. We first watched a video highlight film from the previous search along with commercials containing children. Seeing only 15 parents made you feel good. You felt that your child was special since they saw so many at the open call and only invited a small amount back. The president then spoke where he kept re-emphasizing that Aquarian Associates was not an agency. They even had signs posted everywhere stating "not an agency". We were told that the biggest obstacle in an acting or modeling career is exposure and his company can put you in front of top industry professionals at a fraction of the cost if you were to set out on your own. He said that you don't have to live in NYC or CA to be successful. The casting directors also understand that parents have obligations to work, children have an obligation to school resulting in most commercials being shot during long weekend type arrangements. He went through all this and STILL hasn't mentioned money. Finally at the end of it all he stated that for only $435.00 all this can be yours! Don't miss out on your opportunity. Attend the Pittsburgh
search. It was kind of an "act now" type thing. They only gave you one day to make up your mind. Oh, and how could I forget, they charge $45.00 each for tickets (child goes free), cash only which can be paid the day of the search.

My husband and I left and hung out in the parking lot for a while pondering the situation when all of a sudden here comes the next wave of cars for the next meeting! It seems that they had MANY small meetings. They wanted you to think that your child was so special. They didn't tell you that there were other groups coming in. All of a sudden I became a little disappointed. We should have left and never returned.

We decided to pay the money, attend the search with about 188 children from all over the east coast. It was quite an event. They introduced about 30 scouts/casting directors from prominent modeling and talent agencies. It all seemed so legit. We were told that anyone who had conversation with the scouts and agents would be automatically disqualified. They had the children do a runway presentation, a photo shoot (which they'll sell you an 8X10 B/W for another $45.00) and a small commercial read which they say was videotaped.

At the end of it all, acknowledgments were given for each category along with opportunities. My son received acknowledgments in each category along with an opportunity. Then they announced the names of only 6 children out of 188 to remain after the search to speak to the Aquarian staff. Well as luck would have it, my son was one of the six. We were in shock! We were told that a major agency in California was interested and at this time only wanted to know where we lived. I thought isn't that strange. Whatever happened to the crap he told us about it not mattering where you live. And furthermore, why in the hell would an agent from California attend this search in Pittsburgh and then ask where we're from. Not our address, only where we're from. This event is also held in California so you would think they would know that the Pittsburgh search covers the east. We were given the women's name and agency and she checks out from their web site, so who knows.

About a month after the search I didn't hear anything so I called the agency in California asking to speak to the person who liked my son at the Pittsburgh search. Well as you would have guessed, I never reached her and left three messages which she never returned. In August, we finally received our opportunity letter! What could it be?? The Power Ranger Lady??, the Hollywood casting director?? we were so excited until we opened the letter and found it to be a local TV commercial for a country club. It was printed on a cheap run off paper from Aquarian Associates. It turned out to be an outdoor swimming pool shot with about 50 kids from the search. The kids sat around the pool where a low budget film crew shot about 15 seconds! What a joke. The event was supervised by the president of Aquarian Associates who put on a phony show as if he were some Hollywood casting director. We were paid $40.00 in a check made out by Aquarian Associates which seems odd since they claim not to be an agency.

In closing, I feel that I've learned a valuable lesson. This outfit was very clever in how they presented themselves. We were definitely misled, duped, outsmarted by this jerk. The opportunities were just as phony. It's like telling someone that you're giving them a Corvette for their birthday and then hand them a match box model.

I went to a search similar to this when I was in my mid-20's (about 15 years ago)I didn't get a called back by any agents. Needless to say I was bummed out and quite frankly a bit pis**d. A few days later at my favorite bar I was sitting with a few buddies telling them about how good I did and how mad I was that I didn't get picked, then one of my friends said "Maybe you just weren't good enough!" Of course saying that to me after a few pitchers of beer was a bad idea (I was totally ready to knock his head off)After being held back by a few other buddies I realized maybe he's actually right. Maybe I just didn't do as well as I thought I did. Fast Forward a few years... I have a son now. I took him to The Great American Model and Talent Search when he was 6 years old. He practiced his poses and his little commercial which just melted my heart(I was so proud of him) I thought it was the greatest commercial in the world. At the end of the search his number wasnt called. Sure I was a little upset, I thought he was locked into getting something from the get go. Not understanding what had happened we were leaving and he said "daddy I know I didn't get picked but can I do it again next saturday" (He seemed to think it was every weekend) I explained that if he wanted to do it next year he could, If he was good all year. He did it the year after that and we got to meet with an agent from North Carolina. After talking with them for about a month we were going to make a trip down there(we're from Maryland) to meet with them. a week before the trip he says to me, "daddy I don't wanna go there" I had explained to him about how long it took to set up the trip and all of that and if he understood what he was doing and might miss out on. He said he did. So we canceled the trip. I figured it was useless to take him if he didn't want to do it.
That's just my story, but my whole point is that I thought I did good when I did a search, I thought my son did good and you thought your daughter did good which I'm sure she did. We all think our kids are the cutest and most talented and funniest and smartest etc. Which they are!! But not everybody sees what we see. Maybe an agent liked her but thought she was too old, too young, too dark, too light, whatever. Maybe her look wasn't right for that year.
But to call something a scam just because the outcome was not what you wanted is no reason to call it a scam. If that was the case there would be thousands of people saying Las Vegas is a scam because they didn't win a million dollars. When I went to the meeting they said they weren't agents, they said what they do and what they don't do. They also said "they cant promise any work, nobody can." That was one reason why I signed my son up was because the lady was honest with me. She didn't say "wow your son is going to go far in this business". My point to this whole rant is that just because we dont get what we want doesn't mean something is wrong with it. I wanted the Patriots to win the Superbowl, they didn't win, does that mean the Giants cheated???

Ryan,
Thank you for the response that you left. it was beautiful. It showed that there are still people out there that still have a little bit of humanity left in them. if people would look everyone out there charges fees for this and that, restaurants charge you crazy prices for food that you could purchase a weeks worth of groceries with.... Is it a scam... No... What about all the pageants that you pay thousands of dollars for a dress and if your daughter doesn't have one...then she is left out... the entry fees are crazy and some of them say they have modeling agents present. Do we question them? Nope, we give then our hard earned money in the hopes that if we doll our little girls up enough she might place to get a trophy that will be broken in a few days. So, I guess you could say we all scam each other. In reguards to you Ryan... You are a great man to admit that the human parent can be extremely wrong

Thanks for your reply Samantha. I was a bit worried about how my post would be taken. I didn't know if anyone would take offense to it, if anyone did I meant no disrespect. I know how we as parents can get a little defensive, I spoke to my wife about it last night. She asked "why were you looking at these postings after we went to the search? Do you want to be a model too?" (She knew about my past "experience". I wonder what the age limit is :) Maybe she'll let me do it as a Valentines Day Gift. I'll keep you posted.

Well, I did like it. It was an honest remark made after you experienced it yourself. You didn't bash before you knew, you tried it. Some of these people really need the honest heart talking that goes along with the bad people feel. We all know that sensesationalism plays into place here. The bad always pushes to the front, it is sad though, that the majority of people want to hear the negative instead of the good. And when there is good most people try to turn it around. I feel sorry that Charlotte and he son Tyler has to face this negative feelings. I mean, if a parent stood before me and showed me pictures of them on sets, and actually examples of their children's successes then I wouldn't question at all. Ryan, do keep me informed and what ever you choose I hope that you achieve it.

I have been watching this board for the past 2 years. Watching the heated slamming of a convention. These conventions are legal and yes, you can find representation and make a great living. i decided to take my child this year to an open call, well i took all 3 of my children and only 2 got a good review. They received 2 times so I knew that their were more than 1 meeting( my baby is 3, the other is 14). Meetings by age range... doesn't sound like a scam. At the meeting, watched a film, listened to a gentlemen speak and showed a lot of work that kids were doing after attending his program. They told the price at the end $665.00 and for what they were offerin really reasonable. They made it a point to tell you their way and a way to try it on your own, no pressure sake from them Very professional and to the point. Explained all my questions. Made sure to tell and show everyone that they were not agents and therefore not responsible for tryin to get children work. I understood that concept witout a doubt. Many agents were shown on their tape, they say there name and where they are from, I am taking my child to see what is all about in MAY. Can tell you though with all that they say and do it is not a scam and rememeber it is up to the Agents as to if they want to hire you!

to see all the truths goto:

http://www.selectyourgifts.com/ripoff.html
http://www.beiconline.com/
http://www.transconblackmail.com

Dave from Phoenix, Arizona was upset at a car dealer for wasting his time and he filed a complaint with www.badbusinessbureau.com against the particular dealer and in so doing mentioned www.selectyourgifts.com in his complaint.

Several search engines picked up the reference to Select Your Gifts and a link to the Rip-Off Report shows up when you do a search.

Dave mentioned that the quality of the gifts offered by Select Your Gifts were junk and he felt that the gifts were not worth the shipping and handling charges. Dave never contacted Select Your Gifts and he never placed an order… he just came to this conclusion by looking at his printed certificate.

There is no way to get a hold of Dave… no phone number, no address, no email. We called Ed Magedson, the owner and registered agent for www.badbusinessbureau.com and spoke to him on the telephone for over 90 minutes (in fact the battery on his cell phone finally ran out). I personally took Ed to our website and showed him the gift that the person complaining received. Ed said, and I quote “Wow, what a great gift, what more could you want for just test driving a car!” Ed even mentioned that he would drive 50 minutes each way just to get the gift even if he was not interested in purchasing a car.

I showed Ed the various gifts on the website and explained how the program worked… he was particularly interested in the As Seen On TV items and could not believe that we could offer such nice gifts for only $7.95 shipping and handling which happens to be the exact same shipping and handling you would pay if you purchased the items on TV for full price of $29.95.

I also explained to Ed, the owner of www.badbusinessbureau.com about the fact that when someone went to a particular search engine and typed in www.selectyourgifts.com that the only thing that came up was his Rip-Off Site. I told him that his report is unfair and that we certainly give our customers exactly what we promise. Ed agreed with me, but he would not adjust his website or the negative report. Instead he told me that my company should PAY HIM $5,000 and he would do an independent review of Select Your Gifts and give us a favorable report because he had just spent 90 minutes understanding that “we give great value to the consumer”… “what more could they want for test-driving a car”.

some of these so called gifts cost less in the stores than the mailing cost
this is not a gift award --- you pay for everything
the merchandise is lame
we are very disappointed
it was not worth listening to a three hour land deal to get this award

I also took my son to one of their searches and it just so happened that the day before met with an agent who signed with us and told me it is a legit company but they don't gtd anything! If your son got called back I would find an agent in your area that doesn't get paid unless your son does. They will do the same thing for you that NDN will and for no charge! Good Luck....

I went this past sunday to the Clarion hotel. we were told to go to the convention in panama as well. My husband is doing the payment plan and he set up 300.00 to be taken out this friday. Im having that stopped. I don't feel right anymore about this company, and I certainly don't feel right about paying all that front money and then the ridiculous cost of the hotel and travel. All we want is for Aaralyn to be noticed and to not be ripped off. Any agents in Jacksonville florida?
