I was wondering if anyone knows where to find a PRO AM modeling coach in the Metro Detroit area, my 9 year old wants to try this and we are lost. She has been dancing since she was 3 and doing Pageants since she was 4 so we kind of know what we are getting into.

Thanks

I have mailed out the composits to agency. So now what? Do I call them and ask if they recieved the stuff or do I just give up and figure it was a good try, or are there other things I can do for her. if you have any help to ofer please e-mail me. thank you.

Cosmo modeling agency contacted me after entering my daughter in a local contest. After meeting with them they said that they new they could guarantee her work but because of no previous experience I would need to send her to the classes they offered for $600 which includes her photos. Does this seem right? I checked the better business bureau and they have a satisfactory rating so I am not sure what to do.

What state is the Cosmo agency your child was contacted by in? It sounds a bit strange that they would guarantee your child work with no previous expierence. I would be skeptical, unless you just want your child to have some classes and formal training.

About one year ago, I began my quest to find a reputable agency in my hometown, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Instead, I found Model & Talent Management (or Aquarian Associates, or the Great American Modeling Search, or.....you get the idea). My oldest daughter, who is 10 years old, wanted to enter into the modeling/acting industry. Being very hesitant, I agreed to give it a try. I do not wish to go into detail about this company, but I have done EXTENSIVE investigating, and I am mortified at what I have found. PARENTS BEWARE!!!! I have attended numerous interviews with these people who want money for pictures, model searches, videos, you name it. I have yet to meet(or hear from) anyone who has received work from this company. It also appears that they have moved around several times, changing their name, AND their employees. I have also done some snooping around national and local companies trying to find out who uses talent from this agency. Needless to say, NONE of them do! None of them have ever heard of the agency! The only thing I was told, was that if you are ever asked for money, it is a scam.

My daughters dreams of becomming a model have been put on hold. I will continue to research this company, and hopefully help out some unsuspecting parents. My advice to everyone is to read the other posts. There are many others who have horror stories to tell. Think about what you read, and use your common sense.

that I thought there was a firm getting a class action suit against them. It was a magazine news show.

I recently attended an open casting call in Overland Park, KS with my four year old for Aquarian . They took a digital photo and we filled out a one page form. We then received a letter of invitation to a "parents only" meeting a couple of weeks later. i just returned and was doing some research on the net because i learned that this was all truly about "The Great American Model and Talent" Search being held in LA this year. I listened to their presentation and then came the answer to my question. They wanted $485 today or tomorrow with credit card or money order in order to put my child in their search. The fee does not include airfare or accomodations. In fact, parents attending have to pay an additional $55 each to attend the event. If paying by check, the cost went up $40. I saw most people leave without paying but some stayed. I really wish people would get this information out on the net or in the news because I think these people are taking advantage of many people and most importantly, children.

These people are theives. We did their model show case in Los Angeles, My daughter got a job for an ad in a magazine. We did that and we never got paid for it or got a copy of the ad nor did we see it in a magazine, that it was suppose to be in.
When we contacted them regarding this, we never heard from them, it was always leave a message, leave a message for a call back. Never got the call back.
Low and behold about 2 weeks before the even in Los Angeles the following year, we get a phone call. We have a shoot for your daughter to appear in a magazine ad, but you have to come to the convention for us to give it to you. I told them no way, they wanted me to pay for the event again, 2 weeks was not enough notice to get tickets to Los Angeles and I was not going to pay for the event again. I also told them about what previously happened, I also told them that if given the opportunity I would tell everyone I knew what thieves they were. About 1 hour later I get a phone call from the director(we call him, the snake oil salesman) We will pay for your tickets to Los Angeles, and entry into the event and for the hotel. All you have to cover is new photo's and we will give you the information for the photo shoot. We went to Los Angeles, did the photo shoot, got paid for it, never saw it in the magazines they said it would be in. Tried to contact the company that the shoot was for, could not find an address or phone number for said company. Tried to call Aquarian again, got shoved into voice mail. never have gotten a phone call back. However I will say that we are signed with 10 other agencies in Los Angeles and New York and have gotten plenty of work from them and never 1 time have we paid a fee to them or attended a mandatory fee to a modeling convention. Please don't waste your money. The old rule applies "If it sounds too good to be TRUE it is"

It almost seems impossible to find a really good and TRUE audition, agency, or anything anymore. People are wanting to go into the industry for all of the wrong reasons. I want to because im in LOVE with the craft, and the production and behind the scense things that most people never see. Most want in because they want to fame and fortune, and thier "15 minutes in the spot light" I dont want to be a fade in and out entertainer i want to be one that can test time, and make a difference. I know that there are at least 20 "agencies" in my area that are completely fake. WHere has everyones morals gone? To go so far as to hurt children, and people, just to make some money? its sick...

Hey!!! i dont know what to do, i have wanted to act since i was 4 years old. And not because of the fame and fortune, i would be lying if i said all that wouldnt be nice, but i really just want to act. I dont care where when or how, i just want to act and i have no idea how to get started. I never realized that there were so many people who wanted to act, although i could bet money that half of them arent nearly as passionate about this as i am. I will do what it takes to act, so long as its not hurting anyone:-). Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? How do i know the REAL audtions from the fake ones? Am i wasting my time? SHould i just try to get into a theatre and go from there? Thanks much for your time:-)!
laura

PS- i am 17, so i figure if after 13 years im still so passionate about this, this is what i was meant to do..

On September 23, 2004, I took my two toddler boys to an Aquarian Associates "Casting Call" in San Luis Obispo, CA. I was skeptical going into this thing. I worked in the television business before I became a stay-home Mom. I'm an experienced producer in live television news and advertising, all at the local level. I was not impressed by the "Associates." They took quick video shots of the kids with a home video camera, under terrible lighting conditions. I was wondering how they would hear the kids say their names with only a camera mounted microphone in such a noisy, crowded room. I got a letter yesterday saying one of my sons received a favorable evaluation. Before deciding to attend the next meeting this Saturday, I decided to do some internet research. I was glad to find this website and another, www.easybackgroundcheck.com/aquarianassociates. I won't be wasting anymore time with these people, and I definitely won't be wasting any money on them!
I encourage others not to fall for their scheme.

Margie..thank you for the information...and everyone for the information as well. I too went to the open call in San Luis Obispo and also got the letter. As I was reading it, I started feeling a little suspicious that they would want another meeting with just the parents, etc so I started looking it up. I'm very glad I did. Why should I have to pay them to use my child for an advertisement when they'll be getting paid for it? Makes no sense so I'm glad I won't be wasting my time. I also called my friend who went and she got the same letter and warned her about it as well.

I was going to pay a babysitter $6.00 an hour to attend this presentation only to be bilked of $500.00 or so! Shame on Aquarian for using children to get into their parents wallets! Shame-Shame!

There must have been a thousand kids there of all ages. I was told 19 was the max. Basically, you sat around until your set of numbers was called, you turned in your self addressed envelope, you stood in front of a camera for less than 10 seconds. You stated your name, age, and smiled; show those teeth. Thank you very much. It took an hour or hour and a half to get through this many people.

Well today I received a postive evaluation notice. Lucky me. Now they are going to evaluate the parents, one day, one time only, no kids allowed under 9. It is going to be a hardship to change my schedule to go to this meeting to watch a video of success stories and be told that the success comes from the parents. If I make it, I will post again.

I believe the "favorable evaluation" is a bunch of lies. My friends and I took our children and all of them got the letter. I think they set it up to look professional to take everyone's money for the convention. If someone was really that interested in your child, they would not ask for money. They would be offering money.

I too received a favorable evaluation for my child from Aquarian Associates. So I researched them online and found letters from many parents who felt that their open casting calls are a scam. They make you feel like your child is special- one of only 15 or so chosen. What they don't tell you is they have these small groups of 15 coming in ALL DAY. In the last 10 min of their informational meeting they will ask you for about $500, and you only have 24 hrs. to decide. They will keep scamming you out of money for pictures, portfolios, etc. They do not have a great success rate. Notice how you can't call any number beforehand to ask questions. You can give your child's photo to a local model agency for FREE. Children do not have portfolios because their faces change every year. I called my local news program to alert them to the scam. Hope this helps

Hi Amy,

I was wondering if you really notified your local news about them. Did they do something? Follow up? Right now, they are doing this scam in Tucson AZ and we are up for the 2 hour 'event' soon (no questions allowed ahead of time). And we can not even bring anybody other than us, the parents.
What can be done to stop an organization like that?

Thanks!

The woman posting the message travels across the country to attend these "casting calls" with Aquarian. She showcases her son as though he is a success story at the end of ONE of the "informational" meetings you (and everyone else) get "invited" to. You will know who I am talking about if you go. Why on earth would she use an alias if she is telling the truth?

Hi. I live in Washington, DC and am the single mother of a 3 year old. I've been having people tell me since she was a newborn that I should put her in commercials. Now that she is 3, and has so much personality, I'm considering looking into this. She's real outgoing, and you'd have to meet her yourself to believe the personality on her. I have no idea how to get started, and don't have money for an agent or anything like that. Any suggestions?

My experience with Proscout (and other model searches of this kind) have not been very productive. Indeed they get you in front of the "right people" in the industry, however, your chances of being signed are one in a million. The search is enjoyable, and you meet alot of other aspiring models....and that's about it. So many people are chosen to attend the event and maybe 5 people will get signed. The odds are certainly against you. Unless you are mega skinny, super tall, have incredible long legs, and stunning features and bone structure....save your money. Be realistic and consider your chances of making it big. Breaking into the business is not as easy as attending a search for a few hundred dollars. Start small. Take some snapshots of yourself and begin to submit them to local agencies. Or, take the money you would spend on Proscout and put it towards a plane ticket to New York and go on "go-sees" with Ford, Elite, etc. Almost all the major agencies conduct go-sees. This way you'll find out if you have what it takes. But believe me, don't waste your money on a stupid search that you have to pay for. You will also incur alot of other fees that go along with it. Hotels, meals, transportation, tickets, etc. It's not worth it. All you need is a few clear snapshots to start - be cautious of people who want to take your money. Educate yourself about the business and you'll be fine. Good-luck!!!!

I read these comments and have to laugh at all of you. You keep touting the websites Modelingscams.com and ezbc.com and both of them are scams!!!! The guy is being hunted by the FBI for being Hate sites!!! It's the same individual (probably this cluck that signs his messages THE CRUSADER) like he/she is some protector of the public. You people are like a bunch of sheep!!! God how gullible can you be!! Read all about your little EZBC.com and Modeling scams.com here http://ezbc.bravehost.com/ This person has been kicked out of 13 web hosting companies, for illegal acts, identity theft, slander and false allegations. He/she has been classed as a Hate Site by the FBI. The moron has posted bad reports about Naomi Cambell..heard of her...the super model! He/she also reported that Elite Models and The Ford Agency two of the top modeling agencies in the world, are running scams. Do youor research....man why would you EVER rely on one site as your only means of proof of a scam!! Jeff

Seems what Easy Background Check dot com seemed to be right on target with Pulse Model Management!

Everything I have read so far on that site seems to be right on.

I haven't read what they said about the major agencies, but then again how silly of you to think that they don't do aweful things sometime. Will read and let you know... if I agree with you that is.

I am 20 years old, 21 this October. Since Iwas 16 I have been to agency after agency trying to become my dream a model. I have been lied to practicaly robbed and most of all disappointed. It started at John Robert Powers. They kept telling me how beautiful I was and how my ambition was going to take me somewhere. I started classes, worked a couple of promotions and almost 4 grand later, nothing. Ive been in acouple of local magazines(no nudity if thats what what your thinking). I went to Proscout in Boston and had 6 call backs my first time. La Agencia told me to loose 10 pounds(I was 115 at the time 5'9) and grow my eyebrows out HAHA. Then I signed with BMG as my mother agent. Went to Chicago twice, each time about 1,200 and still nothing. People say to all the time "you should be a model" (I am not trying to be conceited)and it makes me so fustrated, I cant even take it as a compliment anymore.I can do this I know I can if I could only catch a break!!! If any can help this 20 year old with her dream 941-204-5329 Thanx

This board is for parents of kids in the industry under age 15. Please visit our sister board http://www.voy.com/103637/
You will find other models and legitimate casting calls and agency info as well as some more shady. You have the very best tool to market yoruself and create work for yourself. The internet. You may not be the next Cindy Crawford or Tyra but you can certainly make a reasonable living with a lot of leg work on your own and some awesome photos. Putting yourself in the right place at the right time.

I want to say the Aquarian Associates and their Great American Model and Talent Search is the best exposure that I could have ever obtained for my daugter in a very little time. Not only did I get her foot in the door I was able to get her whole body in. The event was well organized, very professional staff and the industry people that was there to see the children was amazing. Not only did my daughter get work immediately, but we are in the process of signing with 3 agents in different markets. Way to go Aquarian and thanks for the great thing that you are doing for the hopeful kids and parents! If you get the chance to be scouted or considered for this event go try it out I was shocked and amazed.

Is this company real or not ? Did you have to pay money ? I just took my daughter to the evaluation and received paperwork back saying she had a good evaluation and to come to a parent meeting. Is this a waste of time ? I don't want to make a big mistake.
Did your daughter move on to better things or is she crushed?

In the process of getting a job is not the same as an actual job or work for your child. Getting your "whole body" in means the child has been cast or chosen to model for a company and they have an actual date or audition. And they actaully get paid.

I have heard at one of our new parents classes that a Kansas City news station problem solver group is going to be investigating the practices of the Aquarian Group and possibly confront them. My sister-in-law took my nieces to Holiday Inn last weekend at the initial meeting and got the favorable letters, but after seeing this discussion board, she is changing her mind.

I believe you. I won't take my child that is for sure. Only a few people have anything good to say and they never seem to sign their names or if they do, they can't seem to name one job their child has actually done.
