If you've already signed the resignation letter today, then why does HR need your records? They want YOU to help them out in justifying why they want you gone? Don't do it. They just want you to supply them with records that they will try to use against you in building their case if you should try to file for unemployment, because the unemployment compensation is, in a sense, coming out of their pocket. That is also why they wanted you to sign a resignation letter as opposed to them just firing you. If they fire you, you could file for umemployment compensation and most likely win. If you resign,it will look like you left willingly and you will probably not be eligible for unemployment compensation. I don't know if money is an issue for you, and unemployment compensation is not a lot of money, but it is something when you have nothing coming in and may help while you look for another job. I hope you didn't sign anything, I say let them fire you, at least you may get unemployment compensation. Besides, resign or fired, they will say what ever they want when a future employers calls them for a job reference.
