Just a follow up about this scenario.....some time passed and I finally did call the HR department. The HR rep was VERY nice and explained the situation to me. The NA position I applied for was in a M/S unit- and we all know there are a lot of new grads in those units. The HR rep said yes, the manager DID want to hire me but wants to wait until my RN license is reinstated. The DON of the hospital spoke with my friend about it several weeks later (never was there a mention of the felony, so it might be sealed after all!). She said the just felt VERY uncomfortable putting me in an assistant position when I have more experience and education than the majority of the RN's in that unit. Her take was "what if a patient went down the tubes and she had to step up with that experience and performed out of her scope of practice? And, if things were going badly, of course she would and we don't want to put her in that position" The HR rep gave me her direct contact number and told me to contact her ASAP when my license is renewed and they would work with me to find a position at that time. This hospital is in a large network that includes the hospital I was working in when I got in trouble. Still, they are willing to take me on. Apparently, my previous boss talked me up on a positive note and they asked around at my old place and got nothing but positive statements (albeit some sadness about my 'situation'). Made me happy that I was never one to burn bridges and was always willing to be supportive of folks in other units, had a lot of the current nurses as students and kept those good relations with them over the years.
Keeping my fingers crossed that in just 6 short weeks they are still singing the same tune and want to take me on with that fresh ink on my newly reinstated licensure! :-)
