You can either sit and be depressed and frustrated or you can get an answer. So, make the call. At least that way, you have an answer and then you can take action. If your record is sealed, then the only way they know about your felony is by running your nursing license and if you aren't trying for a licensed position ask to plead your case. You don't have to drag your friend in to it, just ask them the right questions...as in, "did this have anything to do with the honest information that I disclosed to you during my interview"....If the manager that interviewed you says she can't hire you, I would STILL send all that info to the HR department with a letter, again pleading your case and asking to be hired, offer to do random drug screens at your cost and offer to do anything else that they may request to secure employment to prove that you are worthy. Again, what do you have to lose? And if they still say no, then all you can do is pick your head up and move on.....I will tell ya, like I have posted a gazillion times on this site (unfortunately all those postings have probably fallen into the archives many, many moons ago) but, nursing homes, MRDD facilities, pediatric facilities (day cares, etc), etc fall into "protected categories" and felony records with some exceptions are frowned upon and some outright complete exemptions. Even if nurses have records sealed, it still shows up on the nursing board record so it can be a permanent ding....most states though the absolute exemption is if it involves an abuse issue. Just an FYI so you might want to check your state law. In other words, be sure to apply at a few hospitals too, they don't have that absolute bar to employment from felony records deal....
