Subject: She wasn't that young...
In reply to: Ghanima 's message, "Was Paul wrong to put Alia in power?" on 17:58:06 08/14/03 Thu

Alia was 3 or 4 when she killed the Baron,
Paul led all through the Jihad (12 Years)
Paul only gave up when he lost his sight after Chani died.
So by math, she would have been 18 at least when she got the Regency of the twins.

Paul himself became leader of the Fremen at age 18 or 19.

So she wasn't really that young was she?

But whether it was wise or not to put her in power even at that time is still a real good question.

She was BG and possibly possessed, and he should have known with his prescience that there would be trouble, but did he have a choice?

Who else could take the Regency?

Jessica left to Caladan, wasn't happy on Dune.

Stilgar could have acted as Regent, but I'm sure he would have fought tooth and nail to avoid such power thrust upon him..

Irulan couldn't be trusted and no one would let Paul put a Corrino in charge even as Regent anyway.

Alia was his only choice, Paul could only hope that being an Atreides would keep her on the straight and narrow.

Jay
