Subject: Nathaniel Appleby BEAL, 1830-1908, Maine, USA

Hello Appleby researchers! My gr-gr-grandfather was Nathaniel Appleby BEAL, 1830-1908, of Bowdoin and Lisbon, ME. I do not know why his middle name was Appleby and would appreciate any tips in that connection!

He was a son of Nathaniel BEAL and Mary COOMBS. (The elder Nathaniel's father's name may have been Joshua.) Nathaniel Appleby BEAL married first Hannah E. SMALL in 1853, second Antoinette (Nettie) GRAVES in the very late 1860s. His grave in Bowdoin, Sagadahoc County, has a GAR-Civil War marker.

Oh, how happy I'll be if someone here can help me identify my Appleby connection! Thanks.
