My wife is descended from William's brother, John. A family historian wrote that three brothers (John, William, and James) sailed from Ireland. Family tradition suggests that John was b. in Ulster in 1743 and William was b. about 1742. Both John and William served in the Pennsylvania Militia during the American revolution. A Presbyterian, William settled in Pennsylvania, moved to Georgia, then moved to Williamson Co., Tennessee where he died 23 Nov 1807.
It certainly is possible that these Applebys were descendants of the English who along with and Scottish Protestants were moved to Northern Ireland as part of the anti-Catholic actions of Queen Elizabeth and later British monarchs.
