I agree with Kara in that a need for control is an appropriate reason to be tested. However, I do not believe that it is the right reason for everyone. Some people�s personalities dictate that they have a need to maintain a sense of control in their own life and have the ability to prepare for the future whatever it may be. Nevertheless, other people may prefer to live with the unknown because neither a positive nor a negative result can ensure that you will or will not have breast cancer. Unfortunately, the sense of control can be shattered by other factors that can affect whether or not someone gets cancer. Therefore, although it may provide some people with a sense of control, they must not fully believe in the result of the genetic testing because its results do not necessarily convey what will happen in the future.
