From a health perspective, it does not make as much of an immediate difference medically as it does psychologically for the individual who acqires the knowledge that they have the marker gene. Carrying a marker gene only signifies that the person will have medical complications in the future, when the diesase worked by the gene develops. Therefore, one who carries this marker gene is not "sick," rather, "potentially sick." While genetic testing can warn an individual about their future health, it may not have significance regarding managing one's health. If one carries a marker gene, no amount of health management will stop or prevent the disease. However, with the knowledge of having the gene, it may encourage a person to keep their best health so as to be healthy and ready to fight the disease when it comes.
