I think that Janet's children should be informed about the possibility of their inheriting the gene for Alzheimer's. Whether or not they are told, however, they will realize thos possibility of this inheritance once they see their mother suffering from the disease. The children then will have to option of genetic testing, as Janet did, and they can choose whether or not to know for sure if they have inherited the gene. I think that family members should have somewhat of a say in genetic testing because the results of those tests affect them as well. Perhaps they do not want to know if there is a possibility of them losing a loved one soon. And if the loved one does have the gene, perhaps they do not want to know this because it tells them of their chances of also having the gene. Genetic testing affects not only the person being tested, but also the people that they share genes with.
