Dan, no disrespect a lot of drive in obedience comes from the quality of training. I have seen many sluggish GSD’s and Mal’s. The difference in the drive of the particular dog is ofcourse the breed but also the training the dog receives or does not receive at crucial times in its early growth. In addition because of the angulation of a prticular dog its obedience may be inhibited by its conformation. This is true for all breeds. Now I don’t expect the best Boerboel to be a sharp in obedience as a very good GSD. That said, some people are satisfied with less because it is a Mastiff breed and I think this is a mistake. As I have said many times the BS stops when the crate opens and mine will open soon. I am anxious to see what I can do.
