I recall all that as well. I also remember when WIIC ran a "write your own Popeye song lyrics" contest and apparently some smart-alecks on the studio crew slipped dirty lyrics into the legitimate contest entries to try to get the Cap'n (Ted Niemi) to break up on camera. A couple times they almost did, and you could hear the laughing. And as I recall, Ted wasn't the first Cap'n.
