- Desendents of Joseph Tyrrell and Thomas Tyrrell -- John, 00:51:44 01/15/08 Tue (86-40-223-253.b-ras2.mvw.galway.eircom.net/86.40.223.253)
I am trying to find desendents of Joseph Tyrrell, who lived at 18 Alfred Street, North Fitzroy Melbourne in 1914 when he joined the Australian army on the 14th August 1914.
His number was 73 and he joined B company 2nd I Brigade and served in Turkey where he was severly injuried and spent the best part of a year in hospital in England and then returned to Australia where he died in 1917 . He had a wife named Louisa Mary and a son called Joseph John. He later married a lady called Lena and in 1967 they lived at 181 or 187 Canterbury Road , Blackthorn. I have in my possession a signed photo of Joseph Tyrrell in uniform on 19/10/1916.
Also I would like to hear from the desendents of Thomas Tyrrell, mothers name was Kathleen, who served in the Australian Navy in WW1. He served on the H.M.A.S. Warrego and the Huon. He lived at 18 Alfred street N. Fitzroy when he joined the navy. I know that these men were related as one of their fathers left Ireland in 1881 and arrived in Australia on board the ship called "Eleanor". I have in my possession a photo of the winning crew aboard H.M.A.S. Warrego and I have reason to believe that he is in the photo.

- Joseph Whitfield born 1848 Cumberland England -- Pauline Thomas, 00:51:04 12/05/06 Tue (user-54433e42.lns5-c7.dsl.pol.co.uk/84.67.62.66)
Joseph Whitfield was born 1848 in Workington, Cumberland, England to John and Mary Whitfield (nee Beeby).
Around 1875 (after the birth of his third son) in Hartlepool, Durham he deserted his wife and family.
It is likely that he travelled to Australia to join his brother William who was a Mariner in the Brisbane area around this time - altho' his travels took him around Australia, William eventually married in Mittagong in 1879.
Joseph's deserted wife in England eventually remarried as a Widow in 1886, legally she could have assumed Widowship after over 7 years of desertion or did she hear of Joseph's death by another means ?
Joseph was a Slater by trade.
After years of searching for my great Grandfather Joseph Whitfield I have drawn complete blanks and I would be so grateful for any help, however small.
Regards, Pauline Thomas (nee Whitfield)

His DOB is given as the 26/12/1881 but was not registered until the 25/1/1882 in Balaclava S.A. His father was John Venning (Benning)"Saundercock" Geake and his mother was Sarah Ann(ie) Geake nee Gregory who were Hotel Proprietor's in Balaclava. His younger brother was born in England on the 23/2/1880. My father always believed his father was born on the ship just prior to landing in South Australia but this may not be the case.
Would be very glad of any help you can give and will share my info on the family.

I'm looking for a Gladys (also possibly known as Nancy) Shangie, nee Price, who came to Victoria in 1954 on the ORION with her husband Peter and sons Michael and David from the UK.
I think Peter died and Gladys/Nancy married again - unfortunately I don't know her new surname.
I think her sons possibly still alive, but the family in the UK heard that Gladys/Nancy died a few years ago.
If anyone knows any one by the name of SHANGIE in the state of Victoria, I'd love to hear from you.

I am trying to construct a family tree for my line of the Churchills. Infomation so far - Margaret Churchill (nee Murphy) and her three children Mary (or Mary Harriet), William and Theresa arrived in Melbourne, VIC aboard the "Indian Queen" in February 1855 - unassisted immigration. It appears Mary was a widow, her husband Charles Churchill having died either in Ireland or England before she sailed for Australia. Some info I have indicates he may have been in the British Army, but I have not had any luck in trying to verify this.
I trying to find out where Charles and Margaret were married. I think it might be Ireland as the elderset daughter Mary appears to have been born in Cork, Ireland. I got this info from her marriage registration (4508) to John Simmons in Melbourne on the 9 Dec 1862. I am also trying to find where William and Theresa were born - either England or Ireland. William Churchill married Mary Ann Coyle on 5 Dec 1871 in Albury, NSW and then moved to Coonamble, NSW were he died on 2 Nov 1908. I think Theresa Churchill married Alfred Jackson on 10 Sept 1879 at Wagga Wagga but I can't be certain as parents were not identified on the marrage regiatration no. 4380.
Any help in providing information on the following would be greatly appreciated:
1. Birth details for Charles Churchill (1820+or-5yrs)
2. Birth details for Margaret Murphy, born around 1824, Kings County, Ireland.
3 Marriage details for Charles Churchill and Margaret Murphy (1840+or-3yrs)
4. Birth details for Mary (or Mary Harriet)Churchill - born in Cork, Ireland around 1842+or-2yrs.
5 Birth details for William Churchill (around 1844-47) and Theresa Churchill (around1850-1854)
Thanks
John Churchill

- Watson - McDonald Families -- Jack Dempsey, 06:31:03 04/12/06 Wed (cache-dtc-ae01.proxy.aol.com/205.188.117.5)
Charles James Watson was born Nov. 24, 1866 in Roxbury, Vermont. He married a Florence Hill and had two dtrs. He arrived in Australia by way of New Zealand on the ship Victoria and disembarked in Sydney on Feb.10, 1911. He applied for Naturalization in April, 1913. Form lists occupation as farmer and residence as Wooroolin, Queensland. He is shown as a widower with one male child. His Cert. of Naturalization is 17329 and took his oath of Allegiance on Jan.3, 1914. He died in 1915 at Boat Mountain, near Murgon while working as a carpenter. He is buried in Grave 34 in the Presbyterian section of the Murgon Cemetery. He was married to a Emma Beckstine or Bickinstine ( I can not pin down the correct surname) and had a son Charles Howard Watson. I believe she may have died in Child Birth as Charles was raised from birth by a James(Age60) and Susie McDonald (age55) of Jones Hill, Kingarog. Charles, the son was apparently under 10, when his father died. I have two letters from the McDonalds send to Charles’s brother in US. I will throw out some facts from the letters. Charles was awarded land (40 arces) and it was taken back by the government when he died. Charles possessions were sold and turned over to the state and put in a public trust for the son. The McDonalds were not Subjects, they were still US citizens. James born in New York State and Susie may have been Canadian. They were planning on returning to the US as soon as their farm produced enough $$ to buy land in US. Whether they did or not is not known. They had a son who was in the Imperial forces in WW 1. Charles the son was enrolled in school. Emma had relatives in Australia as they mention a brother who visited Charles.
The McDonald letters show wife’s surname as Bickinstine, other sources show Beckstine.
This everything I have! Seems like a lot, but not what I really want. Would like to find Charles Howard. Reconnect our two families, if he married and had children. Or any real record of him, other than the McDonald’s Letters.

I am looking for descendants of the Pate family, George & Sarah Ann Pate who migrated to Sydney from Sussex via NZ in 1870's. They had 7 children Clara, George,Alfred, Lil?, Rose, Sydney & Alice. Alfred is my mother Maxie's father. I would love to hear from anyone related, especially George's daughter Thelma Grace Clarke's descendants who would be able to fill in some gaps.
