You are obviously misinformed. SP is top 75 on EVERY national recruiting list (Gibbons, Rivals, Tellup, ESPN, Sporting News, you name it!!!). IMO he is tougher, stronger and has more moves than BC had at the same age.

Granted SP didn't have the "explosive" summer many expected him to have but he DID hold his own against most of the top 25 bigs he faced. No excuses, but he is just getting his legs back 2 full strengh. Had he taken the spring off to rehab he probably would have remained in the top 25 nationally.

As for questions of "heart" - don't even go there. SP stepped up for WA in the playoffs for 2 years after fighting to return from tough injuries - even when "some" high regarded teammates disappeared. He does not hesitate to "mix it up" inside - unlike BC in hs. Heart has pushed SP to hit the weights hard this fall and bulk up to over 230. You'll see heart when he bangs every teams 2-3 bigest players every game and wears them down on the way to 22pts/12reb per game as WA marches down state.

I saw BC at Morris the summer of his Sr. yr and he was vrey soft, lived outside (in spite of playing w/much smaller players) and didn't take his team anywhere (all season)! Far better than SP - I think not.

In BC's defense - 1st round is 1st round!!! He's got guaranteed $$$ for 3 years and he's on the LAKERS!!! He's got 2 of the leagues best ever bigs to learn from in Shaq & Malone (not to mention Grant - who has (4?) rings). And a great coach. Sure 13-19 would have been nice - but this is an outstanding opportunity and I hope he can make the best of it, get that all important 2nd contract and have a great pro career.

I expect similar results from SP after 4 years in the tough B10. BC only started to get seriously tougher/stronger after 3 yrs when he had no other choice if he wanted to get to "the league". SP will come into IL stronger and work harder and be pushed harder by Weber and staff that BC was. Sure Dee will help but he will be gone by SP's jr year - by then SP will be ready to step up and lead the Illini as BC started to do his jr/sr year. Expecting SP to be a mid first rounder in 2008 is not so far fetched if he continues to work hard and develop.
