[> Depends on what is making the noise. If it is the Hard Drive then want to get your information backed up as soon as possible. If it is the fan then not such a big deal just an annoyance. Try and isolate from where in the PC it is making the noise. -- Hope, 09:07:40 08/07/07 Tue [1]

[> [> Thanks Hope and Ronda--- my guess was that it's the fan. It seems to run way to much of the time--so that might be a bad sign too? Agh--- I have so much stuff and I need to get a good way to back it all up...which I don't have right now. Any good suggestions for that would be appreciated, too. -- manette, 09:25:18 08/07/07 Tue [1]

[> [> [> Right now can get external HD's with a lot of space at a resonable price. One site I like is buy.com they usually have a good deal on things and if sign up for Google checkout get money off the price. Inside for a link -- Hope, 13:08:38 08/07/07 Tue [1]

Here is one that hold 500GB at a pretty good price and good reviews.

[> It could be something as simple as a cooling fan going bad. Or it could be something much worse, like a hard drive going bad. Is there a pattern to when you hear the sound? Like when your hard drive might be working, i.e. when you open or save a file. I’d say back up your files just in case. -- JAG Junkie (Ronda)--sneaking in at work, 09:08:43 08/07/07 Tue [1]

[> Three weeks ago my computer was making a awful sound at times. When I took it in the problem turned out to be a bad driver on my sound card. Drivers are a software fix, not hardware involved. In addition, while they had it they cleaned it where the fan and heatsink are. I got it back within a couple of hours. Back up your files and take it in, it could be something simple. -- Jeanaz8, 13:53:57 08/18/07 Sat [1]
