Subject: A little hint for those who are getting a laptop for the first time.

I like to describe myself as an infomaniac, and a mouseophile. As such, I had no patience with the slowness of negotiating a keyboard without a mouse. I can use the touch pad, but I find it awkward after years of using a mouse on my desktop.

To me, it wasn't worth the effort. It was like using a screwdriver instead of an elecric drill. So when I got my MacBook last year, I purchase a little mouse with a chord. That presented its own problems, particularly as I am right handed and the plugins are all on the left side of the computer. I really didn't get any pleasure out of using my laptop.

Anyway, I finally bought a wonderful, small wireless mouse and I am beginning to love my Mac. There are many brands available, but the one I got is pretty metalic blue Logitech with a wireless plug in thingy that clicks conveniently onto the bottom of the mouse. It also turns the mouse off as it clicks in.

I love it and totally recommend it (or something similar) for new laptop users who don't want to go through the painful process of using keys and annoying finger pads. Oh and these mouses seem to work perfectly on any surface, even rumpled bed comforters (which I'm using as my mouse pad right now...lol.) It's also light and easy to store wherever you store your laptops.

[> I wouldnt have been able to use my laptop at all if I hadnt gotten a wireless mouse. I still prefer my old unit, but the laptop is convenient., The only problem is that I have to deal with Windows Vista, and seeing that I'm not that swift when it comes to any program, its been a real challenge. I am having a heck of a time with Microsoft Works, being compatible with other programs. Its nothing like Word and that is all I know. -- mkim who knows shes whining, 20:15:55 10/09/07 Tue [1]

[> [> mkim, that's why I haven't bought a laptop yet. I know I'll want a PC and that means getting Vista. I'm really not looking forward to it. -- SeaBeth, 06:57:57 10/10/07 Wed [1]

[> [> [> You can still purchase XP and then format the hard drive after buying it and load XP on it instead. Only thing to be sure of is there are drives for the hardware compents that work in XP -- Hope, 08:05:59 10/10/07 Wed [1]

[> I haven't had a mouse in five years, ever since I moved away from desktops. I got so used to the touchpad that I no longer need one, and if I use one, it makes my neck hurt. I love the little touchpad, so close to the keyboard an'all... ;-) -- Colie, 22:06:09 10/10/07 Wed [1]

[> I use my wireless mouse right on the laptop itself. The way mine is laid out, there is all sorts of space to the right and the left of the touchpad, so I use that blank, flat surface as my "mousepad". It's quite handy that way--I can use the laptop anywhere, even in a reclining position or in a cramped car. -- JAG Junkie (Ronda), 05:21:07 10/11/07 Thu [1]

[> [> I can use the pad, but I would happily go up against anyone testing for speed and agility, mouse v pad. I've been able to use my laptop easily without a mouse, when I've been a passenger in the car on a long trip. My husband dictated a bunch of letters, and I typed. However, if I'd had a wireless mouse at the time, I could have used it as it works on any surface, wobbly or smooth. Also, I simply can not draw or do any art or designs, without a mouse. -- Cece, 09:45:13 10/11/07 Thu [1]

[> [> i use my mouse wherever - lol- sometimes it's on my stomach if I'm laying in bed, or on the mattress beside me. The new ifrareds work on any surface that isn't multicolored. I use it on the endtable or the sofa cushion if I'm downstairs - I love it. WHen I was at fanfest a few years ago Cher borrowed my laptop and my mouse and drove right out to circuit city to buy herself the same mouse. -- chris k, 10:28:23 10/14/07 Sun [1]
