I want to thank you all for sharing your thoughts, feelings, experiences and perspectives on this topic... this has helped me to open my perspective and see things in a new way. I understand John Walton's character in a different way.... last night I watched an episode in Season 4 where John was really deeply affected by Olivia's going to work. I realize now that order in the household is really really important to him, which was the context in Season 3 when he lost his temper. He said "what is going on here!" "Mary Ellen would you get supper on the table now" "Olivia where have you been?".
