So funny you should say that, my mother in law still does that and I have several from her that she has made from old clothes and scrap material and then she hand quilts them they are beautiful, I have some from her mother and her mother in law as well, she is 72 and still does the hand quilting. She is the same person for our anniversary last year painted a 16x20 picture of The Waltons house. It hangs in my country kitchen.
