The word 'coon' certainly is a racial slur, especially in the southern US. I've heard the term all my life to refer to black people.

The word 'coon' also is a shortened version of the word raccoon. I've heard it all my life too.

I've also heard the phrase "in a coon's age" all my life, but I never even thought of it as being a racial slur. To me, it has always just meant 'a long time'.

Chris, we all know that you meant nothing offensive by it. I can't believe something this innocent has turned into a PC thread.
