I've been there twice. You will find it quiet and peaceful with no Starbucks or GAPs. You might have to drive back into Lynchburg for a nice hotel though. There are one or two in Lovingston, but I've never stayed there so I can't really tell you about how they rate.
Buy as much of the homemade stuff as you can. I like that it's not "mass produced". Also, mail yourself something from the Schuyler post office (you can't miss it). That way, you'll have the post mark on something. Take lots of pictures and videos.
