between just blindly accepting someone else's ideas and interpretations and protecting your independence to the point of not being able to share in the richness of another's experience. I don't think you would deny that most people in this world are either not developing their judgment very well or are surrendering it to various charismatic leaders or mob psychology. Just look at what happened in this country after 9-11 or how many people voted for George Bush even though their own interests probably lied with any other candidate. Look to the Middle East or the South of this country or even to relatively conscious places like San Francisco where people are willing to commit all sorts of atrocities and condemn other people who live differently in the total absence of reason. I think it is a valuable trait to be hesitant to just believe anything that someone else proposes or claims to experience. Group delusion is just all to common, not that I am of the opinion that that is what's happening at One Taste or that there isn't some risk of missing out on getting the most out of something if you can't suspend your criticism of it. What I feel that I need to learn is how to balance between the two so that I'm not seeing the Mother Mary in every puddle but I don't miss out when Elvis sits down next to me on the bus.
