Subject: Long legged women...

The lake at the park is a big lake. This morning, the side that I park at was clear. I put the fluid bottles on the bike, put on my helmet & bike gloves, turned on the bike light (dark as sin) and took off. The other side of the lake… wham… dense fog… pea soup. I could hardly see a thing. I got to the spot in the diagram approaching the fence… the thickest fog ever and my glasses fogged up. I could less than barely see. I missed the turn. There is only few feet to stop before hitting the rocks that line the lake. I hit my rear bake hard. I slid sideways holding the bike up with one leg. Stopped just in the nick of time. What a rush. My heart just a pumping. Flash like reflexes: this old man still got it. So cool, thank you my God. I had to stop twice to clean my glasses. I had to stop once to pick up the fluid bottle that I dropped. I lost two, three minutes time going around the lake at the path in the diagram. In the distant past things like that would have spoiled the moment. Instead, it just added some excitement. I had a ball and half. My attitude has adjusted much. Thank you Robin, thank you Sylvia, thank you my God... and thanks to you all in here, you too!

Then, about five minutes into my walk part of my workout, three long legged younger women veered onto the path just ahead of me. My first impluse thought... "I'll pass them up." "Oops, not necessarily, been there before", I said. Sure enough, I poured it on, I could not catch them; keep up but not catch them. On the hills, I would close the gap some but on the downhill and on the flat part, it was very tough keeping up with them. They sure did not seem to be going fast at all-- long strides, ya know. I got to my turn around point and kept up the pace on the way back. I did not make any better time and I traumatized my right hip. Got home, two muscle relaxers, two pain pills, a great massage by the greatest massage person, another pain pill, lots of moist heat pad time, sleep... and now I sit somewhat comfortable... long legged women... it's their fault! Ya know!
