>Bob,

Your views on the initiative of the NRL to groom ex players to become referees appear to be based on incorret facts. For starters the three cadets have not taken three fulltime positions away from Premier League referees. The three cadets will be refereeing schoolboy and junior league games to develop their skills as do all referees. In fact one of the cadets, Luke Phillips is already a level one referee and has been refereeing on the NSW central coast. it was`stated by the NRL yesterday and by myself in several media outlets that the cadetship program for ex players in no way will prevent non ex players or anybody else from refereeing at the highest level if they are in fact good enough. For you to say that the NRL is basically turning its back on junior referees and Premier Squad referees is nothing short of alarmist and is certainly incorrect. Perhaps before you go to print as you have you should take the time to get the correct information.
