Well, I still haven't gotten around to seeing Citizen Kane yet, so I don't have an opinion on that one. But I much prefer realistic acting to the old, over-emoted stuff. So for me, movies didn't really get good until around the 70s. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I can't think of any pre-1970 movies I've seen that I would put in the top 100.

I guess the question is whether you're judging movies on how they influenced later movies, or if you're judging them as stand-alone films, independent of time.
