It was reported he is a fill-in and a freelance weatherman for 2, but his smile was as broad as a hurricane today, and that Cheshire-cat smile itself might have been Ray's middle finger to the suits at 4, which he has said he left not of his own accord. But like Bob Dylan, I don't think you have to be a weatherman to see which way the wind is blowing.

It may be a legal finesse, this reported not hiring Ray full time, which may be prohibited by a noncompete clause, in saying he is freelance and a fill-in. But as soon as 2 can marry him in the open as a full-timer, why wouldn't they? He has said he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh, so he gets that, too. Congrats to Ray, who is great on-air. Did he want too much cash for 4 to keep him, or were there other off-air issues that moved 4 to can him? Because if they thought he was bad on-air, they weren't watching.

But I know neither whether he had a noncompete or didn't, nor do I know whether he is finessing with "freelance fill-in" the "full-time" business until it can be announced. Seems logical, but the logical is not always the true. Anyone with real reporting on this would be welcomed to express it here.
