  Marty and Mangino have just about jumped the shark on guns. Marty will not hear anything close to a well-rounded discussion and goes crazy on any dissent. I can see both sides of the issue but his pique is over the top and at this point exhausting. He challenges reason and civil discourse and reduces it all to goofy name calling and abrieviated exchanges that he thinks passes for discussion.
  Aside from how I feel about gun control, a reasonable show day after day is not too much to ask for. Or is it?
  Someone, please stop the maddness.

• The Fan Cleveland vs the Fan Pittsburgh -- Comparison, 11:33:19 01/02/13 Wed [40]
  Been having the opportunity to do some business in and around cleveland lately and have been listening to their version of "The Fan". I've heard all four shows (morning, mid-day, drive and night) and I have to say The Fan in Cleveland is superior. The morning show is about even, but the rest of the day is far better in Cleveland.
  I have been trying to put my finger on what is different and i think it is the hosts have more respect for callers. The hosts dont have the attitude that since they work in sports, they know more than John Q Public. They don't give callers free reign, but there is no snarkiness or attitude from the hosts. Maybe that's a 'Burg thing.

• Awkward On-Air Chemistry at KD? -- Wexford Woody (Miss Uncle Douggie (Hoerth) RIP), 13:29:20 12/19/12 Wed [16]
  Aah.... this time of year is filled with the "desk" rotation taking their turns with snappy banter between breaks and transitions are sometimes a bit over the top...
  
  However, I notice that on KD mornings (Both pre-network and CW), there appears to be a very frosty, limited or no exchange between Sara Arbogast and the "desk". It's especially noticeable when Sara does both.
  
  Oh, and don't start every single traffic report with a robotic drawl "good morning" that immediately makes my morning coffee chilled. Chester Drawers makes the effort to be affable, but even he seems "puzzled and puzzed" with Arbogast at times. Lighten up- It's canned airtime.
  
  Not limited to KD. Remember when Wright and Frey were first paired. Cat fights seemed to be imminent. They have gotten better with chemistry. Maybe it's that special something (that Pittsburgh is talking about) that John Meyer brought that smoothed things over.
  
  Channel 11? Kevin Keeps us safe and Trish dishes the goods..... Their anchors are interchangeable.

  I just wanna know if it's just me..or is it impossible to tell the weather
  By looking at the re-designed lights atop the old Gulf Building. Yes it is
  more colorful, but it has so many colors I don't know what it is trying to tell me.
  Perhaps a simpler color code is needed??

  I think there are many professional people who read this site. I have a few questions for you. I know in the early days of local television and pretty much through the 1970's, although I could be wrong, many stations taped over their programming to tape something new.
  
  Was there ever a point in which the TV stations began actually archiving certain local programs instead of taping over them? If so, what is the estimated time period for this?
  
  Who has the best collection of older archived footage of local programming? KDKA? WTAE? WIIC-TV/WPXI? Is there any access to request any of this footage if it does exist? I have seen the different stations do their anniversary specials but they were very short and limited.
  
  I have been looking for an old Iron City or IC Light commercial which had the jingle "You can't keep an Iron Man down!" song. Would it be worth it to contact Pittsburgh brewing to see if this old commercial still exists?
  
  What is exactly out there in regards to older local TV programming?

  When both Larry and John are on the morning drive, you hear Giant Eagle commercials featuring Larry Richert & Shelley Duffy.
  When only Larry is on the morning drive, you hear Giant Eagle commercials featuring Larry Richert & Shelley Duffy.
  When only John is on the morning drive, you hear Giant Eagle commercials featuring Larry Richert & Shelley Duffy.
  When a guest host is on the morning drive, you hear Giant Eagle commercials featuring Larry Richert & Shelley Duffy.
  EXCEPT when Pratte is on. You hear NO Giant Eagle ads but you sure as hell hear a lot of Kuhn talk.
  I'm sure the Iggle pays big bucks to have their ads on the morning drive. Why are they not played when Pratte is on? And I'll bet a dollar to a donut that Kuhn is not paying for Pratte's mention of them.

• Heather Abraham Anchoring -- O'Really, 15:41:32 01/02/13 Wed [7]
  Well, I almost fear to bring this up as I did with Alison Morris was pretty much vilified in here, but Heather was brought inside to the morning anchor desk to fill in for the holiday. I thought she did a nice job in handling the news and a nice amout of the 'chit chat' between the people on the set. She made a nice appearance without big hats and parkas covering her up. KD did pimp he 'polar bear' plunge a bit with stop action of her going into the water...some might critize that as becoming part of the story, I guess. I think she can work into an anchor position with a little more exposure. However, it will probably going the routes of Sonni, Alison, Jim, etal.

  I'm not saying it was, but it appeared to be on my Twitter feed. I was in Erie over the past weekend and checked Twitter to see him seeming to be very defensive over critical remarks, including the following tweets:
  
  * "Please remember, I and my weather colleagues, do our best to predict the future...who else does that at their job?"
  
  * "The funny part to me...I said 2'-3' we got 4'-6'..but it still snowed, right? It's not like I forecasted for no snow & sunshine #chillpill".
  
  When I read these tweets from Verszyla I went to check if anyone sent him a public tweet ripping him. I couldn't find one. Only responses were from people defending him (including rabble rouser Colin Dunlap), but nothing I could find in public.
  
  I was just wondering, was there something else mentioned pubically toward him on his forecast? Maybe someone sent him a direct message and was having a bad day.
  
  No offense meant to him, but didn't see what the stink was about.

  Whatever happened to Elizabeth Day's broadcast career after KDKA? Did it take off? What is she doing now? What station is he with? I thought this hire was a total catastrophe, but some enjoyed it.
  
  Whatever to the guy who took over for Logue and was way over the top in his moral and religious views. Another terrible hire. He did not last long. Wasn't it Gary (Something)? Did he not end up on an religious station?

  I really don't mind listening to Chris Moore now and then. He does however always seem to want to educate listeners about racism and prejudice constantly throughout his show. When he avoids this issue I find him to be interesting and informative. I notice that during his tenure as a fill-in host
  the last week or so he reads numerous emails attesting to his skill, wisdom and general greatness as a radio host. many of these messages decry the fact that KDKA has not hired him for a full time daily show. I find him reading these messages to the listeners to be annoying and self serving. He seems to me, to have a pretty big chip on his shoulder.

• December radio ratings -- Karl, 01:26:04 12/30/12 Sun [4]
  No surprise that 3WS wins the month with its temporary all-Christmas format. WRRK noses ahead of WDVE by the slightest of margins. The Fan reverses a three-month decline with a modest gain over November's number. KDKA-AM remains strong even after the elections. No telling how WSHH did with its all-Christmas format because Renda doesn't subscribe to the ratings. WPGB shows a sizable decline -- the biggest in the month -- after a big November spike.

• KDKA Year end programming -- O'Really, 19:19:10 12/27/12 Thu [2]
  Why didn't KDKA radio just shut down the station from Christmas Day until January 2. This entire week was populated by every fill in voice they could find and was a great example of the "vast wasteland". Mangino in the morning? One obnoxious host replaced another for Marty's show. Johnna Pro and Tradio boy doing night time talk. Even the FM sports talker had the D list fillins for the morning.
