All morning Pratte has been reporting that Garrett Jones was named player of the month for July.
Garrett Jones DID NOT win National League player of the month for July. That went to St. Louis right fielder Ryan Ludwick. Jones did win the National League rookie of the month award

Does anyone else find the new announcer recently hired on KDKA incredibly annoying? I don't know what it is, but he is annoying. I can't stand the way he says "NewsRadio 1020 KAY-DEE-KAY-A"!!!

How much longer are the tv stations going to keep showing that coward murderer of helpless women? I don't want to see video of his house..I don't want to see his face..I don't need someone reading his blogs on tv. This is exactly what that coward wanted. If the police and psychologists want to see and read that ..fine. It will not help anything by publicing it over and over to us. We already know there are many others like him out there. Don't give them a reason to want to copy him and get their 15 minutes of fame.

Late on the BREAKING NEWS -- Radio Chuck, 19:52:23 08/04/09 Tue [20]
Massive shooting in Collier at LA Fitness in Collier. Happened at around 8:15PM as I was listing to all the developments on the police scanner. Not one TV station even knew at 8:30 as I called each one to see why they were not on live.

Finally at 9PM, KDKA went live, then WTAE. WPXI never joined in until about an hour later.

Whats up with that? Outsiders shouldn't have to be tipping them on stories. Isn't there anyone monitoring police scanners anymore in the news department?

New Look To FOX 53 News At 10 -- The Ghost Of Television Hill, 04:55:28 08/09/09 Sun [1]
Saturday night's Fox 53 News At 10 was nothing but flickering black and green video with no explanation for the entire first segment. Vince Sims kept rambling on, while only the bottom ticker was putting out anything visual. WPXI's technical woes are getting so bad it's time to take some drastic steps.

Since FOX53 decided to outsource its news to WPXI. Its time for WPXI to outsource their newscasts. Have WJAC in Johnstown or WBOY in Clarksburg produce them. Even better, have that station in the midwest that produced/produces the WBGN news cut-ins make an attempt. Nothing can be worse than the current situation at WPXI.

Or, take the route smaller markets are doing and do away with the news. If you can let a newscast in a major market go on with no video for 10 minutes, it's time to shut it down. Run paid programming or reruns of Seinfeld. This operation is a disgrace and its time that upper management apologize to what is left of its viewers and give an explanation. I can only predict that one of the WPXI anchors will eventually walk off the set after the 1000th time of having to look like a deer in the headlights with the next technical glitch.

GOOD KDKA: First day of Steelers camp, Shumway got the rainbow arcing over the practice fields at St. Vincent, and they had the only video I saw of Casey Hampton doing the run test.

BAD KDKA: They showed the little girl who was almost abducted at Mon View Heights. Isn't it standard policy never to show children who might be involved in crimes? They obscured the identity of a witness, but not the intended victim. That's unforgiveable, imo. They also never linked the suspect to the man who tried to abduct a child at Arsenal Park. Both descriptions of the man were very similar.

The CBS Radio website has a job posting which has also been in the trades for the past couple of days. KDKA NewsRadio is seeking an experienced talk show host.

They're searching for a talent who's informed, entertaining and bursting with personality. The winning candidate for this rare opportunity should have proven success in ratings and revenue.

I'm nauseus now listening to Vince Sims roller coaster anchoring on Channel 11. What's up with his reading? It's all over the place. Punctuated on the most random words. Sounds like a bad imitation of Entertainment Tonight, but he's reading about drug busts, or a shooting.

All three TV stations are wall to wall. KDKA Radio is on it, with Jeff Hathorn and Bill Rehcopf helping Matt Del Signore in the studio.

Horrible story...coverage so far has been decent.

From time to time I read the posts here to get a feel for the room. And Pittsburgh seems to have pitted Mike Zappone against Jory Rand, with Zappone the clear winner.

Now that I've seen Mike Zappone I've got to wonder if Rand is somebody's sock puppet. Because the best that I can say about the Mike Zappone I saw on the Nightly Subway Sports Call is that he probably got a C+ at some summer sports announcing camp. I'm no expert, but it can't be good when the old, bald, crumpled newspaper reporter sharing a split screen is throwing off more electricity than you. I mean no disrespect to someone who looks for all the world like somebody's favorite son-in-law, but KDKA is neither cable access nor Butte, Montana. Earnest and eager might look good on a resume by they look uncomfortable and clammy on TV. With a thin voice and encyclopedic command of the obvious, Zappone looks like a guy who decided what he wanted to be at the age of three and hasn't turned of Sports Center since.

I've got to see this Jory Rand guy. He must really suck.

Alison Morris Style of Dress? -- WhaThe, 21:09:05 07/27/09 Mon [9]
Alison does not seem to be dressed appropriately for doing the type of job that has her out on the streets gathering information and conducting interviews. Since moving to the evening shift, she looks like she is dressed to go out dancing as soon as the shift is over. Low cut and tight seem to be her be style. Granted, she is good to look at like that, but it just seems a bit non-professional. IMHO
