It's a good point you make, Mark, that the king of the small hill gets more dough than the pretenders down the hill. And bolstering that is cost of living -- if you make $10,000 in Pittsburgh, for example, it goes way farther than $10,000 in New York City -- you need maybe $22,500 in New York to have the same buying power as $10,000 in the Burgh.

Just curious about the beneath-the-surface stuff, suggested by Dr. Jung in this thread, as you may have had offers to go to Boston, Chicago, NY or LA due to your numbers, but apparently have turned them down. Wondering if that is because you are Burgh through and through, with no intention of leaving here, or is it because maybe outside offers, given cost-of-living differences, were literally not as lucrative as staying here (not to mention starting over somewhere with no track record of ratings there). There may be more good competition elsewhere, too.

I know I'm a Pittsburgh guy, born and bred, but have left here for business a couple of times, but always found my way back to Pittsburgh -- even longed to come back -- where I am now. Comfort level is way better here for me than other places I've been.
