It's kind of a fatigue, I think, for longtime radio talent and even news or sports columnists, or even songwriters and singers, to come with new, creative, high-quality product. It's hard to come up with new good stuff. It just is.

So, I think Madden and many others revert to their own greatest hits. If Mark says a million times that the Steelers are asses and fans are ass faces spewing waste, it doesn't make it more so, it just repeats what he has said in various ways a million times. It is not exactly akin to Trump saying a million times the Russian probe is a hoax, a witch hunt and that there is no collusion and everyone knows it -- he does that with a political purpose, to forward an agenda (stay in office and out of jail), as if anyone over the age of 12 doesn't know he lied, is lying and will continue to lie.

But in Mark's case, even he would concede if honest, that it is hard to come up with new stuff that is smart, penetrating and funny. And much is about being facile on his feet, use of words with wit and humor, sometimes in reply to questions or issues of a given day. But one guy said he is better to listen to than the others, and no doubt that is true, because of Mark's smarts, wit and willingness to poke any bear out there. So I guess it is not too bad that he says the ass stuff about the Steelers, though we don't teach the kids to talk that way. Would it be better if he said: I don't like the Steelers and their fans? Or should he get an A for effort, despite the creative fatigue and reliance on greatest hits, in using more colorful words, even if they are repetitive? He's probably getting closer to the end of his career, but aren't we all? And for the radio listener, the only question is: Is he better than the competition? If the answer for you is yes, listen to him. The other option is listen to none of them and turn on the music, etc.
