A few observations during this important moment in Pittsburgh history and news coverage:

Kdka started w Brenda Waters but quickly removed her. Smart move. Enter Ken Rice and Heather Abraham. Ken Rice shines here. No one can do it like he does. Delivers the pertinent info in a concise, understandable style without being flustered. I trust no one more than him on a daily basis. But even more so in situations like these. Enter Andy Sheehan. I was nervous with his early info attributed to sources. Early. However, every piece of information he reported from the scene turned out to be factual. Shumway did what Shumway does—hype. No thanks, Shum. Schiller, though, was excellent in the field. Her interview with Tree of Life past president was stellar. Very informative and timely . WTAE was shaky at best. Mike Clark and another WTAE colleague were interviewing each other most of the time. Their cameras appeared to be operated by first-time users of the equipment. Hard to understand Andrew Stockey and Jenelle must have said the same phrase fifty times in five minutes. Channel 11 was far better. Their weekday morning team was on point. Peggy came in and added a great deal to the coverage while David Johnson out in the field—near his own neighborhood—was well done. A very sad day where we are reminded how important journalism is and can be in times of crisis. Pittsburgh has some of the best journalists. We must never forget how important their role is.
