Mark is an attention getter, to boost ratings, and has been for a long time and it works for his ratings and wallet.

But does that mean he should name-call like this? Has the public consciousness deteriorated in the Trump era, when that sad sociopath Trump has the president of the United States -- always guys who have fudged the truth here or there but usually have exercised the bully pulpit to calm and reassure during times of big bad events, times of stress, and have tried to unite the factional populace -- is savaging all whom he does not like, calling reporters enemies of the people, and has turned lying into an everyday, every sentence phenomenon. Maybe Madden thinks he has to up his insult game just to keep up, since Trump has eroded simple civility to such an unprecedented degree.

So, it is show biz, it ain't nice, it ain't good, and Madden does it for ratings, not unlike Trump does it for approval and votes. Personally, I'd prefer if he would say why Bell and the rest are jerks -- Madden is hardly one to say holding out for more money is bad. And maybe he does elaborate on his reasoning, for all I know. But we could then elevate the discussion out of the gutter and closer to one about the principles involved. I'm not in the car anymore in his air time, but when I was, I listened to him for more brains and wit than the others.
