She's thinking of how much it must hurt
knowing from her own experience-
She couldn't stand to play the game
any longer
than her eyes could stay open

It's that self-inflicted pain
that she never understood
the meaning of
but felt the need to share

Un-phased eyes dart back
looking somewhere
beyond her unweathered smile

But she digs her crimson nails
only a bit further
expecting him to catch her glare
at any moment now

She would never learn
that her reputation precedes her
and everything she says
is so sugarcoated
that blatant hatred
seems like a new facade
