Just got home and I have to say that we are exhausted. Up since wee hours yesterday morning, waiting in the 106 heat to get inside the convention center for 2 plus hours, racing to reserve our seats for everyone, participating in the pageant, coronation ball, up all night packing 9 suitcases and flying ut this morning from being up at 6:00 a.m. Whew! The show was incredible! There was nothing like it and an experience we will never forget.

Thank you so much to our family, there is no way I can honestly tell you how much it meant to all of us with the constant support. I know she felt it all the way from NC to CA.

Her being called out photogenic was incredible and we thank all of you guys back home that voetd and passed the word around to support her in this event.

I wanted you to all know that she has made history at Teen USA and set a standard for the next class of Teen delegates. Melissa broke the record of how much money was raised for one single item and more than matched what the entire delegation raised collectively. The helmet sold for $5100 and the total amount raised was $10,000.

She worked hard on her helmet and she was a favorite among the general public vote and did a great job.

There is a reason for everything and it was not in the cards for her at this time however, we are really proud of how far she went and all that she accomplished.

Melissa is taking a few days off and staying in LA with a relative for a small vacation. While there she will be attending a celebrity children's charity and getting some much needed sleep.

We love you guys and hope to be back in the swing of things - we'll see you at dance!

This year, books sell for $25, but you will make $10 off of every book you sell. Hey guys:

Just an update with Melissa:

Yesterday she arrived 9:00 pst and had a bout with some food poisoning - great!

After her ordeal with that, she is fine today and photo shoots galore.

The first person we met, the shuttle driver, knew Melissa and said he had read all about the auction of her NASCAR autographed helmet and it was a big hit here in Palm Springs.

I've attached a little tidbit from the local paper today.

Contestants in the upcoming Miss Teen USA pageant will doante items to a silent auction that benefits the Angel View Crippled Children's Foundation

Some of the gifts include: signed Taylor Hicks photo from Miss Alabama, Route 66 signs from California, god necklace and earrings from Miss South Dakota and a guitar autographed by Toby keith from Miss OK.

The prize of the auction is likely to be a NASCAR helmet signed by all 43 NEXTEL Cup Drivers donated by Miss North Carolina!!!

Go MELISSA!

Sometime this week I should know the link of where each of you can go on and vote for Melissa for Photogenic it is online vote and we need all the votes we can get to overcome the large pageant states.

I'll keep you all posted, we miss you all.

First let me say congratulations to all of our dancers, their teachers and all the parents from Weir Dancin. I am so amazed by the sportsmanship that our kids display no matter what place they are awarded. In working the props during the week I observed several times our dancers congratulating those coming off stage and wishing good luck to those about to perform. Early in the week our kids seemed to be one of the few studios cheering the other kids on. As the week progressed I did notice others following suit. I was priveledged to see some of the emotion displayed by our departing seniors. Standing backstage was very difficult as I observed these wonderful kids taking the stage for their last competition and see them fighting to hold back the tears as they stepped in front of the lights. What a wonderful way to end an amazing year, it all seems a blur yet it seems so long ago that we were in Atlanta and now another season is behind us. To Allyson and Nena,Suzanne, and Jessica, I must say both thank you and congratulations. Year after year you continue to come up with original and entertaining choreography and seem to find a way to push our kids even further than they ever thought they could. Looking back through my pictures over the past several days I realize what an honor it is to follow the progress of these great kids and to get to know their parents and siblings as well. I know all of us are looking forward to another exciting season. Finally I want to give a shout to Mark Smith and John Edwards and Fritz Schulte letting me hang out with them and help with the prop truck and drag some props on and off stage, it was truly a great time!!

First just wanted to let anyone interested know that I have added a second site for dance photos. I did this primarily to help Linda from having to upload so many of my pictures. I must tell you I now realize how long it takes to upload and edit all of those photos. To Linda, I cant say thank you enough for all of those shots you have posted so far this year. To everyone in the studio that enjoys looking at those shots... the next time you see Linda Hoverman O'neill in the studio, stop her and say thank you!!! We have been truly blessed to have someone so dedicated and giving of her time, I know she has my eternal thanks. The new web domain is www.marksdancingshots.com and should be available by wednesday evening. Hopefully sometime in the near future we can link it from the weir dancing website but for now, I have shots from nationals at myrtle beach so enjoy.

I don't know which made me more proud, your numerous winning performances, your outstanding display of sportsmanship when you came in the audience to cheer on the other dancers, or when you gave standing ovations to other studios and applauded the dancers from Extreme Dance when they came back in the dressing room after winning the much deserved Victory Cup. You kids are simply the best. Your parents and teachers at Weir Dancin' have done a remarkable job of raising you, not only as dancers but as individuals.

Congratulations to our awesome studio...TEN numbers in the Battle of The Stars, TWO Choreography awards for the 12 and unders and 12 and overs, a Future Star Winner for Dance Spirit Magazine, Jenna Branner (also 4th overall Sr Soloist, 2nd RU Miss Starpower, 2nd, 3rd, etc in Teen and Senior Duos/Trios). A GREAT BIG congrats to the Teen dancers for Fiesta as 1st OVERALL large group and I Gotcha as 1st OVERALL small group! Way to go dancers and Nina! Congrats to Allyson and the Seniors for a 1st OVERALL in Battle of the Stars with First Time Ever and 2nd, 3rd or 4th (can't remember) with Wish You Freedom. ! Congrats to our juniors for outstanding performances during the week and in Battle of the Stars The Bird, Why and State of Shock! You guys were AMAZING! To our youngest dancers...you kids light up that stage and you were incredible with Cars that Go Boom and Miss Jessica's "Must be the Money". Congrats for making it to the battle and for placing in the battle! WE all LOVE our new number, GOOD LUCK, choreographed by Caroline Lewis! Way to go dancers with a 3rd OVERALL out of a HUGE selection of lines! I thought the lines would NEVER end on Thursday! You guys looked great in your 1st performances of Good Luck on Thursday and in the Battle!

Allyson and Nina and the Schulte family...you guys are the best and we are proud of you as the owners of Weir Dancin'. Thank you for continuing to take WD to the BEST competitions in the land and allowing our kids to be exposed to such incredible talent from throughout the USA and Canada. Starpower in Myrtle Beach was one of the BEST competitions we have ever seen and as parents we were proud to have our children perform. Thank YOU for always displaying the best in sportsmanship. It was wonderful watching Allyson congratulate every teacher on stage during choreography award presentations. I always enjoy watching the WD staff in their element at dance competitions. It is evident that you are all very well respected and admired by your fellow dance teachers and peers from throughout the USA and Canada. Thank you for always being so supportive of the other dance studios and dancers. You demonstrate to the dancers and parents the true reason for competition dance.

In our dancers' lives another season has ended and a new one begins. Enjoy this time with your children, it goes by too quickly.

I apologize if I left anyone out or have incorrect placement, it's early and my memory is not as clear as it used to be! Congrats again to our many, many winners at nationals!

Oh, and Taylor Hoverman, it has been a pleasure watching you grow as a dancer this year. I hope you know your family is soooo proud of you! Congratulations on an amazing year and 2nd OVERALL Teen soloist! The years are going by too quickly...I wish time would stand still. We love YOU so much! Good luck in 10th grade next week!

Here's to an exciting week ahead, an exhausting week behind :-)

THE DANCERS were great last week as they danced, spirited and prepared for the coming days of competition.

The PARENTS were fabulous getting all those angels to and from the studio in a week's worth of VERY INTENSE rehearsing.

THANK YOU Mrs. Sue for all the cleaning, Ballet classes and amazing Ballet Camp!!!! She is such a great support and loving teacher. She wishes you all well!

The week of competition will be both hectic and exhausting-filled with TONS of great competition and FUN! We as a staff look forward to you guys going to Myrtle Beach-and doing some MAJOR DANCING!!!!!

It is with much sadness we bid farewell to our Seniors (Emily Guerin, Kimmie Starkey, and Jessica Kirkland) and Katie Browder, as she prepares to take care of her knee. SUPPORT and lift these girls up this week as these times are so precious and we will look back and reflect on their last time dancing with us as the season closes.

NEXT......we are MOVING ON to a season ahead sure to be one for the BOOKS!!!! We are looking ahead-planning a lot of exciting routines, costuming and the works that make us WEIR DANCIN!!!! Packets/schedules were distributed this week and we look forward to seeing you all back on AUGUST 9th as we get this thing started back up.

Be safe as you travel to Nationals-WE WILL SEE YOU THERE, WATCH & SUPPORT YOU AS YOU DANCE, SO GET READY TO BRING HOME THE GLORY!!!!!
Subject: COSTUME SALES!

Author:
Linda
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 05:11:17 07/21/06 Fri

Ok, ladies and gents, it's approaching costumes sales time again. This is your final opportunity to make things easier this year! While at nationals, and you are taking lots of pictures of your dancer and their friends, please also take a close up picture of your child in the costume, front and back. Be sure to photograph close ups of only the costume to depict as much detail as possible. We especially need photos of solo, duo and trio costumes.

The most time consuming part of selling the costumes is photographing them on the mannequins. Dress, undress, flip around, button up, safety pin here and there, etc, etc. The costumes never look as good on the mannequin as they do on the dancers!

Just a quick note, due to copyright infringement laws, we are no longer allowed to display our costumes from Jassi in NYC on our web site. Apparently, unscrupulous people have been searching our web site and copying his designs. We don't want to jeopardize our relationship with his company and will abide by his wishes.

After nationals, if you are considering selling your costumes, please do the following. Make sure they are clean and have no loose strings or beads. If strings are loose, please tie and trim. Please spot clean and wash any briefs or bra tops that are washable. Please package your costume in a large ziploc. Make sure a name is on the ziploc and inside the costume's tag. Indicate the approximate size of the costume. Include waist, hips, bust measurement and length of skirt or pants from waist to bottom. Also include the inseam of any pants from crotch to bottom of hem. Please note any flaws on the costume and include them either on the outside of the ziploc or on an index card. Many moms included index cards inside the bag and this has been helpful. I would like to start collecting costumes as soon as you are ready to sell.

Once I see what we are selling and have a count of costumes and sizes, I will forward emails to the people in the date base I created last year through costume sales.

A general rule of thumb for costume resales, the better the condition of the costume and the more detailed the pictures, the higher the prices.

You will be missed very much next year. Jessica Batson!! We are excited to watch you dance again! Jessica Kirkland, we are excited to watch you fill in for Lindsay in a few numbers! Lindsay Bowen, please get well soon and come back. The studio is not the same without you.

To all of the dancers, good luck and dance your hearts out. You have all grown so much this year as dancers and as young men and women! We are excited to watch you perform again!

To all the parents, enjoy every moment of this, it goes by too quickly. Just ask a few of the seniors moms how they feel this week watching their kids dance for a final time at nationals. I know it seems like sometimes all we do is drive to dance and write checks. One day, we won't be driving to dance, but I have a feeling, we will still be writing checks for college and other expenses! haha

Can't wait to spend a week with our best friends in the world, the dancers, teachers and their families, staff and parents at Weir Dancin. GO WEIR DANCIN'!!! BE LOUD next week!!! The kids LOVE when we show our support!

Teen Swim Party immediately following dinner at Monterey Mexican Restaurant in Matthews. Teens don't have to get dressed up for this night out since they are going to dinner at a casual restaurant after rehearsal and then to the pool!

Gail Armstrong and Kathy Davis will be available to take Teens to the Swim Party. (any other parent that wants to drive a crew from Monterey to 518 Cottonfield Circle, Weddington please let Kathy know at 704-309-6004).

Pickup from the Swim Party is 12:00 midnight. Any parent that wants to hang out poolside to share refreshments are welcome to arrive at any time.

Teens need to bring a bathing suit and towel. The pool is NOT chlorine based but saline (softened salt water) so their eyes won't suffer.

Looking forward to seeing the teens have a blast dancing, eating, swimming and most importantly, bonding as a group!

I know several of us are staying at the legends resort, dont know if we could do it there or maybe meet at Myrtle Beach state Park. Just a suggestion. I would be willing to help to organize an event, maybe we could do a cookout or maybe order pizza, and bring your own drinks and maybe a side dish, whatever everyone elses interest is. Hey everyone! We miss you! Taylor performed Le Jazz Hot yesterday and won the preliminary talent award! She is on cloud nine. Last night, the preliminary teen and miss winners were introduced in the "green" room at the Miss SC pageant. They make a big "to do" of the winners introducing them to the crowd of Miss SC staff, Miss American 2003, Erica Dunlap, directors and media. Also, it was a rare opportunity for me to have a few minutes to speak with her. She is having the time of her life and sends her love to everyone. She also wanted me to thank all of you that have been here this week to support her and although she cannot talk to you...she SEES you in the audience and you are making her smile!!! Todays preliminary is at 2:00 and she competes in evening gown/casual wear/onstage question. Tomorrow at 2:00 is the big day when the top 10 are announced and they will recompete in all categories.

Wish you guys could see Allison, Hayley, Kianna and SaVannah on stage performing in the production numbers! Let's just say everyone knows who Weir Dancin' is now thanks to those awesome girls!!!! Hayley, Allison and SaVannah also competed in the Palmetto Princess Talent show on Sunday and word is that they are favored to win the talent show. Watching those girls dance has made me so proud. Gail, Vicky and Andrea have been God sends this week and we are so grateful they chose to be part of the pageant. Allison and Hayley have been maximized to their fullest potential this week and are also assisting as "models" in the lobby for the Palmetto Princesses.

Tickets are available at the door on Friday. Pageant starts sharply at 2:00 and will be over by 4:00. It's a Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.

A big thank you to Mark and Mary Cay Sheppard, Angie and Jessica Batson and Sheila and Reagan Schmotzer for coming to cheer Taylor on!!! Thank YOU!!! Taylor told me to tell you she saw you in the audience and was soooo excited!!

See you all soon. Love, Linda

On Thursday June 29, at 5:30 Taylor leaves for Spartanburg where she will compete for the title of Miss South Carolina Teen. The pageant preliminary dates are July 4, 5 and 6 and the final pageant is on July 7 at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. Taylor competes in physical fitness on July 4, talent on July 5 and evening gown/casual wear with onstage question on July 6. The final pageant where the top 10 are announced and compete again in all phases is on July 7. All pageants are at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium and start at 2:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are approximately $18-$25 per ticket depending upon the event. Arrive early to get the best seats. Hope to see you there! This is such a GREAT system for our dancers. The winner of NC's Teen pageant last week was a dancer! Contestants must be 13-17 and in 8th - 11th grades. There are many open pageants in North Carolina. The North Carolina web site is http://www.missnc.org/. The link for the Outstanding Teen program is at the bottom of the page!
