Laura Warren spoke at the Open Listening Session of future US Farm Policy at the Sunbelt Agri. Expo in Moultrie. US Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Johanns, listened to comments on farm policy that will aid in the 2007 Farm Bill. LAURA WAS AWESOME!!! She was the first to speak to a "standing room only" crowd. She addressed suggestions that would help new farmers trying to enter agriculture. Secretary Johanns took notes on several of her comments. Afterwards, Laura was interviewed by "Progressive Farmer" magazine. What an honor! Even representives from the Georgia Forestry Commission addressed the session. Laura did an OUTSTANDING JOB today!!!

Laura Warren, who is also a State 4-H Board Officer, will be meeting with US Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns at the Sunbelt Expo in Moultrie, GA on Tuesday. Mr. Johanns will be conducting an open listening session on future US farm policy at the Expo. He will be seeking public comments on farm policy and Laura has been chosen by 4-H officials to address one of the questions. Laura's platform is "Building Leaders through 4-H", and what better way to emphasize that leadership than by speaking to the US Secretary of Agriculture. His committee also deals with forestry matters. WAY TO GO LAURA AND GOOD LUCK!!!

Crystal Haralson, Miss US National Forestry; Laura Warren, Teen Miss US National Forestry; Taylor Stanfill, Jr. Miss US National Forestry; Crystal Mock, Little Miss US National Forestry & Lauren Etchells, Tiny Miss US National Forestry appeared at the Georgia National Fair on Saturday afternoon.
We were worried about Taylor, but she finally arrived safe & sound...she had a long way to travel! The queens had fun posing for pictures and meeting & greeting people as they came by the Georgia Forestry Commission booth in Heritage Hall. The Rangers were SUPER as always!!! Afterwards, Crystal (Miss) & Laura (Teen Miss) strolled the midway and talked to many fair-goers. We definitely have two young ladies who love to talk to people and explain what a forestry title is all about! When one little fair-goer was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, the reply was "a QUEEN"! WE SHOULD BE PROUD OF ALL OUR NATIONAL QUEENS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!!!

Friday night at the Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies was an awesme experience. I've worked with some of the athletes over the past year, being a Bocce Ball official. It's always rewarding seeing the smiles on their faces. I even received an autographed picture from one of the athletes AND he even drew a very good likeness of me and presented it to me. He is a very good artist! It was wonderful seeing the other queens. Crystal & Meghan, it was an exciting evening! It became quite comical when we had to go to the restroom just to rest!! But after catching our breath, we were back on the floor signing autographs and taking pictures. I can't wait to see the other National queens at the Ga. National Fair on Saturday. Mrs. Dianne, thanks so much for scheduling such fun activities. It's means so much representing forestry by meeting & talking to so many people. ---Love, Laura Warren

We all can be PROUD of our forestry queens. Crystal Haralson, Miss US National Forestry; Laura Warren, Teen Miss US National Forestry; Crystal Mock, Little Miss US National Forestry; Lauren Etchells, Tiny Miss US National Forestry; Meghan Miller, Miss Worth Co. Forestry; and many, many more were VIP's at the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Fall Games. The Ceremonies were fabulous AND our queens were beautiful. The athletes loved having autographed pictures of the queens and better yet, having their pictures made with them. Laura & Crystal signed hundreds of autographs. Laura had 60 pictures that she signed & gave away AND she autographed about 100 programs, name tags AND one baseball cap. Laura & Crystal spent so much time with the athletes...talking, having pictures made with them, signing autographs, and even DANCING! One of the Special Olympics workers pulled me to one side and said the queens were a tremendous hit! The athletes were standing in line to get to Laura & Crystal. I smiled & laughed so much last night, my face hurt! :)
We have some wonderful young ladies in forestry...WE ALL SHOULD BE EXTREMELY PROUD!!!-----Kim Warren "Proud Mom"

I am so glad that God has blessed this system with the ability to give back to our communities. Events like this is why I am so proud to be part of such a wonderful group of Directors and Queens. Laura was approached by the Flint River Arts Council/Flint River Auditorium Alliance (FRAA) to appear in a 15-second public service announcement (WALB-TV). Mitchell EMC, through their Roundup Program, presented a check for $10,000 to the FRAA for the renovation of the old Mitchell Co. High School auditorium. The auditorium is quite dilapidated now, but the plan is to refurbish it. Through donations & grants, it will one day become Mitchell Co.'s Performing Arts Center, to be used for dance performances, music and even pageants. In the future, even the Mitchell-Baker Forestry pageant will have the opportunity to use the facility. Everyone was extremely interested in Laura's title & she did not hesitant to promote forestry. Hi everyone! I traveled to Plains GA this past weekend, home of former President Jimmy Carter, to attend the Plains Peanut Festival. This was my first appearance and I had such a great time representing Forestry. Mrs. Dominy, thank you so much for making appearances like this possible. You go above and beyond the limits. I also want to thank Ranger Lumpkin and Smokey Bear for making this such a memorable trip. I heard so many wonderful compliments from the people in Plains. I got to meet Jimmy Carter and his wife at a book signing that afternoon. What an awesome experience. They are very friendly and down to earth people. I wish you all could have been there. I cant wait to make my next appearance. Laura, I enjoyed seeing you and sharing this time with you. Beth, Megan, and Caley, you were beautiful and represented the Forestry unit well. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing you all again very soon. Again, thank you to everyone that made this trip such a memorable one.
Much Love, Crystal Mock

The Plains Peanut Festival was my first appearance as Teen Miss US National Forestry. I know it was the beginning of exciting year ahead. It was so nice to see Megan, Caley & Crystal. I hope to see you at many activities in the future. I want to thank Ranger Lumpkin and Smokey Bear for helping make appearances as this one possible. And thank you, Mrs. Dianne, for lining up such fun appearances. Everyone at the parade and the festival were so cordial. Even President Carter signed a book for me! I was thrilled!
I look forward to representing forestry this next year.---

I am working on the Burke County Forestry website (http://burkecountyforestry.tripod.com) and would like to include pictures of local, state and/or national queens from other counties. Since Burke County has not had a forestry pageant, I'd like for people to see what the forestry pageant is all about and what we have to offer.

Please submit photos via email to millsapp02@yahoo.com as an attachment. I look forward to your responses. Be sure to include captions for photos so I can correctly post name, event, etc. with the right photo.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Be blessed,

I want to thank you all for competing in the National Forestry Pageant. We are very very pleased with our turnout. We met our goal that we set out out to reach, for that we are very thankful... More on that to come later. We want to wish all the contestants the best of luck and remember to smile, make friends, and have fun.

We have some beautiful girls competing and I know any of you would make outstanding 2005 National Forestry Queens. To the lucky girls that will be selected by our panel of judges, you are in for a treat this upcoming year. Look for your beautiful faces to be everywhere Nationally. We already have bookings and lots more exciting things to be coming your way. We are so lucky to have the strong backing that we have to support this pageant and for that we are so very thankful. A State and National Pageant is almost impossible without strong backing.

I know each year is going to get better and better for the National Forestry Pageant. We already have girls planning on attending next year.

We have a very distinquished panel of judges attending that will be judging the National Pageant. They have judged on the State, National, and Local Levels. They will be joining us from three different states and I can promise you, they have never seen any of the girls competing tomorrow night.

To Miss Georgia Forestry, Beth Lewis, thank you for agreeing to spend your Holiday Weekend with our Committee and thank you for serving as Mistress of Ceremonies for the United States National Forestry Pageant. I don't think anybody else fits the job more than you do.

Again to all the contestants, their families, and friends, we hope you enjoy your stay in Tifton and may you all make memories to cherish for a lifetime.

To all the Local Forestry Directors for Georgia, thank you all for your support in this endeavor. We have some outstanding, professional, and dedicated Directors in Georgia this year! A friend once told me when I took over the Forestry System, it is like growing a garden, to make the garden bloom, you have to pluck out the weeds along the way, and I feel like this year our Garden is Blooming in Georgia. You are all terrific!!

God has truely blessed the Forestry Pageant with some outstanding parents, contestants, and Local Directors. I am so glad that we are now surrounded by people who are kind to others, who support others, and who do not speak harshly of other people.

To the Georgia girls that did not get to participate in Nationals this year, I pray that it will be in God's plan for you to come next year.

God Bless,
Mrs. Dianne
