They took our holiday pay, they're considering closing institutions, they're considering lay-offs and there's talk of furloughs.
Oh yeah, they're also making a bunch of new captains. Interviews are in October.

MCOFU's web page is awesome. I don't know how they managed to design suck a slick looking web page with absolutely no content. The thing is never updated, there is no useful information there and logging in as a member gains you nothing.
To make matters worse, I finally get something in the mail from MCOFU and instead of something useful, such as information about possible closings and lay-offs, it's just an invitation to the "Holiday" party. Holiday, not Christmas. Which means we have also jumped on the politically correct bandwagon along with the rest of the sheep in this state. Sheep who shit themselves at the thought of hurting someone's feelings for mentioning a federal holiday that celebrates the birth of Christ.
I don't know if anyone from MCOFU reads the crap on this board but if they do I hope they understand that all we want is regular, timely information from our leaders. Please update the website and please grow a set and have a Christmas party!

Jeffrey Curley's Killer Denied Prison Leave

The state's top public safety official has nixed plans to allow a man serving a life sentence in the rape and murder of a 10-year-old boy to get out of prison to attend his father's wake.

Charles Jaynes is one of two men convicted of killing Jeffrey Curley in 1997 after luring the Cambridge boy into a car by promising him a bicycle. There was such a public outcry about the crime that lawmakers nearly brought the death penalty back to Massachusetts.

The Department of Correction had approved Jaynes' request.

But Public Safety Secretary Kevin Burke ordered the DOC to deny the request and has started a review of the DOC's process for approving escorts for inmates to attend funeral services for family members.

Hey, could you Gardner guys please stop tying up our phone lines by calling and asking about bids. We have a prison to run. Now before one of you "wild and crazy guys", as Steve Martin likes to say, says we're lying about the sheer # of distress calls coming out of NCCI, Verizon can verify any calls....

The Bay State’s top district court judge blasted Gov. Deval Patrick yesterday for plans to shutter a Bridgewater substance abuse facility, even as his administration continued to grapple with fallout over the possibility of multiple prison closings.

Lynda M. Connolly, chief justice of the state’s district courts, told Patrick the Nov. 6 Bridgeweater closure would force judges to ignore state law.

“This places judges in a highly undesirable position where their only alternatives appear to be to disregard the requirements of (the state law),” Connolly wrote in a letter dated Sept. 3.

Connolly said the law requires people involuntary committed for substance abuse treatment to be in secure, locked facilities, unlike public health department programs, where inmates will be sent after Bridgewater closes.

The judge’s rebuke comes after Steve Kenneway, head of the state’s corrections officers union, said prison officials were drawing up proposals to shut down four of the state’s already overcrowded lockups in anticipation of massive budget cuts.

Meanwhile, the scuttlebutt on Beacon Hill was that the North Central Correctional Institution in Gardner is next on the chopping block. But Patrick administration officials said there are no plans to close prisons - a politically risky move as Patrick seeks re-election.

Now is not the time to turn on the E-board or the Union. The DOC is counting on the fact that we always blame the E-board for our problems. While I agree that changes are needed and called for from with-in our ranks, I urge you to consider the importance of presenting a unified front against both the DOC and the Gov. Changes can and will be made through our election process. But until that time arrives, fight the battle against the enemy that is determined to ruin your life and that of your family.Support our E-board for that now represents our best chance to prevail.

we need to vote all the e-board incumbents out of office in this next election. We are losing at every turn.
1) no raise
2) 5% increase in out health insurance.
3) we lost holiday pay. about $5,000/yr per officer.
4) no political clout even though we give several thousand dollars to several politicians.
5) President Steve kenneway has provided no leadership.
6) Legislative Rep. Joe Gaurino is a no show.
7) Executive Secretary Henry Harris is not even a correction officer-he is a brownshirt maintenance worker from shirley med.
8)Grievance Coordinator james Nason admits he still does not know his job and needs more time to learn.

This union has gone downhill for the past six to eight years under the so called leadership of these guys.

they might be good guys I don't know any of them. This is nothing personal. but they have had there chance.

Lets vote in some hardworking, smart and solid union guys who will work hard for us and NOT sell us out.
