Subject: Chapter Eight - Bruises and Bacon

Keith had woken up to the sunlight filtering through his window, he looked down at the sleeping figure wrapped in his arms, the sun casting an ethreal glow over her tanned skin. He nuzzeled her head and began softly singing in her ear. Hearing a soft beautiful voice, Shannon began to stir and wake up. She opened her eyes and her green eyes met Keith's blue ones. "Good morning beautiful," he wooed. She sighed, "Mornin studmuffin..." she could help but giggle. "Studmuffin? Thats a new one..." They were interupted by the hungry growl that came from Shannon's stomach. "You need food!" Keith exclaimed. Shannon agreed and attempted to move and get out of bed. "Oowwww," she whinned, her whole body ached, for one reason or another..."This is your fault you know..." she joked blaming Keith. "Hey, you asked for it! Well not delibratly but the underlying beggin was there...." he teased. SHe playfully smacked his arm and got out of bed. She threw on some shorts and a tank top and strated heading downstairs. Keith got up and threw on some sweatpants.
Shannon plotted downstairs and into the kitchen. When she entered, she was met with two knowing gazes. "Woohoo!!! You owe me fifty bucks!!!" Brad exclaimed excitedly. "Oh lord, I dont even want to know..." she stated walking into the kitchen. Just as Kenny was about to pay Brad Keith walked into the kitched. "Ha!!! I dont have to pay you jack!" "God Keith you were supposed to be on my side!" Brad whinned. Noticing the impressive bruises that Keith and Shannon had on both thier hip bones, the hickes on their necks, and the scratched on Keith's back, Kenny commented, "Well it may have been a tie but it looks as though they each put forth a valient effort..." amused he sent himself and Brad into a fit of laughter.
Hearing the laughter Brett Warren came into the kitched to see what all the fuss was about. "What's so fun - oh my god!!! What in the name of Nashville happened to the two of you?!?!" This only proved to increase the laughter from Kenny and Brad and Keith and Shannon were both scarlet red with blush.
At an attempt to change the subject Shannon offerd breakfast and dug her head into the refridgerator. Slidding over next to her Brad wiggled his eyebrows and asked, "So....is he as good as they say he is???" Deepining her blush she grabbed a head of lettuce and threw it at him. Everyone sat down at the counter and she started on breakfast. "So who wants meat in their omletes?" she asked. "Well, we know that you dont, surely you got enough meat last night..." Kenny stated trying to hold back laughter. Shannon's draw dropped, Keith spit out his OJ and Brad and Brett were on the floor laughing. Recieving the death glare Kenny just smiled like nothing was said, "What?" he questioned as innocently as possible. She just shook her head and returned to the task at hand. Everyone was still laughing, even Keith, and she coudlnt help but join in. "Alright alright laugh it up, go ahead!"
The teasing and taunting lasted through breakfast and afterwords Keith decided he had to work things out with Kate, he hated to break the lightheartedness of the day so far but it was weighin on his shoulders. He grabbed the phone and went onto the deck for some privacy.

"Hello?" said a voice on the phone. "Kate it's me," Keith replied. She sighed, "Hi...." "Listen I know yesterday was bad but we have to figure this out." Keith pleaded with her. "You love her don't you?" she asked. "What?" he was suprised at her question. "You love her, I know you do, everytime you talked about her your face lit up and you stood teller, when her name was mentioned your eyes got brighter and you grin from ear to ear. I guess I kinda had a feeling that you loved her but I tried to think that maybe it was just some deep friendship, brotherly sisterly love, but the more I thought about it I knew that you really really loved her." Kate explained. "Then why didn't you ever say anything?" "Who knows, maybe I was just holding on to the thought that it wasnt like that with you two. I know you have a history with her and lets be honest you and I haven't been the fairy tale couple for quite some time. I think we both knew this was coming one way or another..." Keith sighed "I guess your right...well what do we do now?" They talked for awhile about what they would tell people and all the other stuff they had to work out, and made sure they got back on good terms with eachother.
Back in the kitchen Shannon was watching Keith on the phone while doing dishes. Kenny came up next to her "Are you ok?" Lost in thought she didnt hear him, so he waved his hand in front of her face "Ello??? Anyone in there?" "What?? Oh yea I'm fine...." "Penny for your thoughts?" She got a little pale and turned to him, "Ken I'm scared!" "Of what sweetheart?" "That after all this, after last night, the most incred- never mind you get the picture, hes gonna still go back to her, I mean they ARE engaged for gods sake." "Shan dont be scared. I think that maybe last night he finnaly relized what everyone else has known since the two of you became freinds. He loves ya Shan, and not like I love ya, he really loves ya. With out you who knows if he's even be around..." "Don't say things like that!" "I'm sorry but its true, without you and the love that you have for him and showed him, he probly wouldnt be with us today..." Her eyes welled up with tears and she couldnt stop then from falling. Kenny pulled her into a hug and told her it would be ok and kissed her temple.
Keith walked back into the kitchen with a big smile on his face. Shannon turned to walk upstairs, expecting the worst. A strong hand grabbed her arm and pulled her around. Next thing she knew her face was buried in Keith's chest in a big bear hug. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "I love you..." She looked up and him and kissed him. "I love you too..."
After a day of teasing and watching movies and pigging out on junk food, Keith and Shannon went upstair to bed around midnight. They both put on some pjs and climed into bed.

This chapter is kinda depressing so just bear with me....

Keith had fallen right to sleep but for Shannon it was impossible so she got up and went into her room to see if that would help. She layed down and soon enough she fell asleep.
*It was dark when she got home, she had to work late at the barn in preperation for the weekends events. She saw her roomate's and best friend Gwen's car out front. She opened the door and all the lights were off. It was late but it wasnt that late, but she figured that maybe Gwenie was tired and went to bed early. When she put her stuff down and walked into the kitchen something felt very off. She couldnt explain it but it made her shiver with fear. She called for Gwen but got no answer. She walked toward teh stairs and her music playing, although it wasnt anykind of music that she or Gwen would listen to. Then it hit her, Jay, Gwen's boyfriend loved that kind of music. "He must be here..." she sighed, she hated Jay, he creeped her out. She still had the feeling that something wasnt right so she knocked on Gwen's door, no answer. She triend the knob and it opened, she peered in, it was dark but she could see broken mirror all over the floor and things thrown about the room. She swung the door open but no one was in there. She carefully walked in and looked around, there was a small light coming from the bathroom. She was terrified to open the door, she was shaking and started crying. "Gwen???" she chocked out. Slowly she opened the door and it felt like someone had hit her in the chest with a hammer. The walls were covered in blood and Gwen and Jay were both dead on the floor....*
Shannon shot up in bed hysterically crying and screaming at the top of her lungs and her hands were covered in blood. Keith burst throught the door and grabbed her. "Shan! Shan! Wake up! Wake up its me!!! Its Keith" Kenny rushed in and joined them on the bed. She stopped screaming and opened her eyes, waking up she gasped for air. She continued crying and Keith pulled her in to hold her, she was shaking uncontrolably. "Shhhh sweetie what happened??" Kenny looked down at the blood running down her arms "Keith man! Look..." Keith looked down at what Kenny saw, "Shan look at me", he grasped her face in his hands, "What happened?" "I was there Keith! Agian! It all happened again, I could here the music. I saw them!!" she cried. "Gwenie?" She couldnt answer she just nodded her head. Kenny grabbed her arms and opened her hands, "I think we need to get you to a hospital..."
They piled in Keith's car and Kenny drove while Keith held Shannon in the back. It was a short wait in the ER and soon Shannon was greeted by the doctor. "Well I dont think you need stitches but I want to wrap them up good." "Ok..." she blankly said. "So this happend while you were sleeping, must have been some hell of a nightmare..." "Who said it was a nightmare?" "Usually when someone makes a fist so hard that they dig their nails a quarter inch into their palms they aren't dreaming about butterflies and rainbows....." She didnt answer him.
After she was all wrapped up and the paper work was signed she left to go home. Keith carried her upstairs and held her till she fell asleep....

Shan, you have me hooked !!And not just with all the sexy Keith-pressed-up-against-her-hips-grinding stuff [although,who here doesn't love that?].The emotions of the people in the story come thruogh nicely, as well as the "other things" that are happening in their lives.
A good read , as they say !!
