We met Kenny and Kim at the airport the next morning. They were so cute, kissing and nuzzling each other constantly. Keith was slightly annoyed that he couldn’t hold a conversation with Kenny without being interrupted by their affections. I tried my best to follow suit and keep Keith distracted. I put my thumbs through the belt loops of his corduroy pants and pulled him closer. I nuzzled my nose against his scruffy cheek as wisps of his blond and brown hair tickled my face. I murmured quietly, “Can’t you see he has other things on his mind? So should you.” I playfully kissed him and nipped at his bottom lip. He gave me a gentle laugh, “you like to have my attention at airports, don’t you?”

“No, it just seems to work out that way.” I replied, referring to how we first met.

We boarded the plane under the lens of several photographers. Once in the air we all joked around and made small talk. Keith mentioned something about the mile high club jokingly.

“I’m already a member and I hear that you are too.” I replied.

He looked a little surprised but not completely shocked. Kenny and Kim overheard the conversation and quickly piled into the bathroom. Keith turned up the TV to drown out the squeals and moans coming from the other side of the door. Keith and I sat on one of the long couches in the rear of the cabin.
He seemed engrossed in the TV but I tried to get his attention by nibbling his earlobe and running my hand under his collar, resting a hand on his chest. He brushed me off gently, “we’re not 17.” I sat back abruptly and opened my mouth to make a comment but just then the bathroom door opened and Kim and Kenny returned to the cabin with goofy smiles. I tried to watch TV with Keith but I wondered what he was so distracted by. I reconstructed the events of the last twenty four hours and concluded that I couldn’t have possibly done something to screw this up already.

It was warm and sunny as we got off the plane in Vegas, so nice to be out of cold, rainy Nashville. Keith carried my bag to the car and we piled into the limo. Once we were at the hotel Kim and I checked in at the front desk while the boys signed a few autographs. The concierge inquired about us wanting adjoining suites but I declined, knowing how much noise our friends would make. Upstairs we parted ways at the elevator, agreeing to meet up in about two hours after a ‘nap’. Inside the room I was delighted by the view and the welcome basket with lots of goodies. Keith lay down on the bed with his hand behind his head, starring at the ceiling. I plopped down next to him with a handful of grapes from the welcome basket. “We could take a bath, there’s a great tub in there.” I said in between grapes.

“No, I’m really tired baby. I’m going to take a nap.” He replied.

I nestled down next to him and for the first time since we had known each other we actually went to sleep without fooling around at all. I slept lightly and gave up on the nap after half an hour. Keith slept deeply, I watched his chest rise and fall in a slow, even rhythm. I studied his chiseled face, trying to determine what kept him so distant on the plane.

I got up and fished through the basket again, finding a box of chocolates at the bottom. I went out to the balcony with my goodies and a magazine I had bought at the airport. There were pictures of Keith and me in it. I laughed at the reporter’s speculation of a ‘baby bump’. I looked back through the glass door at Keith still sleeping on the bed. We had scarcely been a couple for twenty-four hours and already the press had me knocked up. Off in the distance I heard moaning from another balcony. Now there was a possible ‘baby bump’ in the making.

I lounged a while longer before showering and putting on a pair of jeans and a sparkly shirt. I woke my country boy with gentle kisses on his eyelids. He kissed me softly in return before sitting up on the edge of the bed. I kneeled behind him, putting my hands on his shoulders. “Baby, what’s the matter?” I asked.

“Nothing just tired.” He replied and walked to the bathroom.

I heard the shower water turn on and wanted to enjoy the show but decided to give him some space. I busied myself by putting my make-up on instead. Once he was dressed we walked down the hall and waited several minutes before Kenny and Kim finally emerged. We ate a casual meal in the casino and then commenced to gambling. Keith seemed to relax after the meal and kept his hand on the small of my back most of the time. After loosing enough money we dragged the boys to one of the casino night clubs. They chatted by the bar while Kim and I danced without a care in the world. It was so much fun with the music pounding, enjoying the company of friends and a new love. We danced for a few more songs until we noticed the boys looking nervous. People were taking pictures of them with their camera phones as they drank. It was getting late anyway so we decided to call it a night.

Once the elevator doors opened on our floor Kenny threw Kim over his shoulder and walked down the hall towards their suite. She called goodnight to us upside-down and reminded me of our spa appointment tomorrow and the tickets we had to the cabaret show. Keith and I laughed as the tangle figure of the two bodies moved down the hall. I turned to Keith, “aren’t you gong to carry me?”

He smiled, “you didn’t have that much to drink, neither did Kim, I don’t know why you would need to be carried.”

I settled for his arm instead as we walked to our suite. We kissed a little in bed but he once again lamented on how tired he was and we went to sleep. The following morning we bid the boys adieu in the lobby as we set off for the spa. They had both adorned baseball caps and sunglasses to compliment their track pants and tee shirts. I smiled as I thought of how many millions of dollars they had between them yet they both were still so down to earth enough to dress like frat boys.

In the spa, Kim and I enjoyed massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. I laughed hysterically when one of the spa assistants called Kim “Mrs. Chesney” as he brought us mimosas. The poor boy blushed three shades of red when she corrected him. We joked about the prospects of marriage. She took a small sip of the mimosa before handing it back to the assistant and asking for plain juice instead.

After getting beautified we walked down the strip to a cute boutique and picked out dresses for that evening show. Kenny called Kim on her cell phone to tell her that they would meet us in the hotel bar downstairs, he and Keith had just gotten back from shopping. We returned to our suites and put on our new dresses. The boys whistled approvingly when we met them in the bar. Keith seemed in a better mood than yesterday and kissed me warmly, “you really look great”, he said running his hand down my back.

In the limo on the way to the show Kenny seemed nervous. Once we got there, Keith and I went inside while the lovebirds stayed in the limo. As we took our seats inside I asked, “What did you two do all day?”

“We went to about a dozen jewelry stores.” He replied.

My eyes got big, “he didn’t buy a ring did he?” I asked hesitantly.

“No, he got her a necklace.” He replied to my relief.

He looked down at my hand that was resting on his thigh; he ran one finger down the length of my ring finger and encircled the base of it with his thumb and forefinger.

“Would that have been so terrible of him?” He asked.

“No”, I replied, “It’s just that they’ve only been together a short time.”

“But they’ve know each other a while.” He replied.

“Yeah, but they’ve only been exclusive for a few weeks.” I stated.

“That doesn’t matter.” He quipped.

“Yes it does. It is totally different being an exclusive girlfriend than a f*ck buddy” I said.

Some people at the next table glanced over when they heard my cussing. Keith smiled at them and mouthed an apology. “Gee, tell me what you really think” he said sarcastically.

“I just don’t think they should rush into anything.” I said.

“If you know it is what you want and how you feel it isn’t rushing.” He argued.

“I’m sure he thought he knew what he wanted with Renee and look how well that worked out for him.” I answered.

“That was different, they were never together.” He replied.

He continued to play with my finger, “You are so worried about getting hurt” he murmured.

“Were not talking about Kim and Kenny are we?” I asked.

Our eyes locked but we were interrupted by the lovebird’s entrance. Kim showed me her new necklace and I told her how beautiful it was. “Oh god Kim, I was so afraid it was going to be a ring.” I said.

“So was I” she replied.

Keith shook his head and mumbled something about “such an odd girl”. The show started and we watched the dancers attentively. Keith held my hand and continued to stroke my finger in the dark.

What is up with Mr. Urban?? Could he be testing the waters, maybe he bought you a ring and was waiting for the right moment? Why was he so distant on the plane? This is good!

Maybe when you announced your membership in the Mile High Club, he realized he'd lost his source of entertainment for the trip - you know, "initiating you" LOL

It's hilarious how you say "the boys" LOL

I'm not exactly sure what happens when two male friends hang out together but I see it all the time with my husband. They can act like men for days on end but they get to spend some time with another man and suddenly their maturity level drops and they become boys again. Should be studied in a lab or something, stange phenomenon.

I'd work on the study too. Of course they would all need complete physical exams before participating. Please put on the paper gown Keith.

The blaring ring of the phone woke me from a deep sleep. I felt Keith move next to me as he fumbled in the dark for the offending object. Following a mumbled “hello” the person on the other end launched in a loud, rambling dialogue to which Keith answered with a “what?” He had hung up before I became completely conscious. I started to stir slightly beneath the tangle of sheets and blankets. He leaned over and put one hand on my shoulder and kissed my cheek, “ssshhh, go back to sleep.” He nestled behind me and wrapped one arm around my waist. I leaned back into him and promptly went followed his command.

The following morning I awoke well after sunrise. I reached towards the nightstand to look at the clock but found nothing. I looked around, alarmed for a moment, and then lay back down. I had slept at Keith’s again. Lately it seemed all I was doing at my own house was checking the mail and changing my clothes, half of which had made their way over to this side of town. The dogs had been a welcome addition to the Urban household too; one of them sniffed me carefully, sensing I was awake. She barked at Keith as he entered the bedroom with a cup of coffee for both of us. He shooed her off the bed and handed me my latte. I sipped it appreciatively.

“You went to get coffee already? It was my day to go.” I said.

He smiled, “yeah, but I wanted it before noon darlin’, it’s nearly 11 now.”

“Oh, you should have woken me up.” I replied.

“Well, I figured you needed your rest. For all the talking on the phone you’ll be doing.” He said rather sheepishly.

“What am I going to be on the phone for? What did you do?” I asked.

“I didn’t do anything. But some friends of ours ran off to Vegas and got married last night.” He said, drawing in a deep breath as he waited for my reply.

“What!” I screamed, slamming my coffee cup down and splattering coffee all over the bed and floor. One of the dogs quickly began licking up the hazelnut mess.

“Yeah, that was who called last night. I didn’t want to tell you then.” He said.

I jumped out of bed and yanked some clothes on, the entire time ranting, “I can’t believe her; I can’t believe she would go and do something like this. I bet it was his idea, I bet he convinced her to skulk off like that.”

He stood next to the bed with his hands on his hips, watching me stomp around the bedroom.
“Oh, come on now. It’s not that bad. They are very happy and this is what they decided to do about it. Aren’t you glad they made up after that whole pregnancy scare a few weeks ago?” He asked.

How could I forget the pregnancy scare? What a fun few days that was. I was suspicious when we were in Vegas when I noticed that Kim hadn’t drunk anything. I grew more suspicious when we helped them move and Kim didn’t try to lift anything heavy. Things really blew up when Kenny overheard her on the phone with me. He had disappeared for days before finally showing up reeking of alcohol at Keith’s door. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days, or changed his clothes. He hardly said a word to me, instead went with Keith into the den where they had a lengthy discussion. I tried to eavesdrop as much as possible but he had shut the door. The only part I was able to hear was when he raised his voice, “This is the life you want! Don’t eeff it up!” They talked a while longer before exchanging several man hugs. Keith kept saying, “It’s going to be okay.”
I tried to look very occupied with a magazine when they came out. I invited Kenny for dinner but he insisted he had to go home. He took up Keith’s offer to drive him home much to my relief.

Keith came home a short time later. “Did everything go okay at his house?” I asked.

“Don’t know; I didn’t go in. He got in the front door so I guess that is a good sign.” He answered.

“Such a mess, I hope she is not really pregnant.” I said.

“Why would that be so terrible? They love each other; they’re going to be together.” He asked.

“I just can’t see them being ready for a baby.” I said.

“That’s what people do sweetheart. They get together, hopefully they get married, and they have a baby. In fact, I’ve heard that people have been doing that for thousands of years, maybe you should look it up.” He said aggravated.

“Well maybe that’s what some people do but it’s certainly not what I’m going to do, and I’m not sure if Kim wants that either.” I replied hotly.

“Since when are you the expert on what other people want in their lives? And what do you mean that is not what your going to do? Are you saying you don’t want to get married or you don’t want to have kids?” He asked alarmed.

“I’m no expert at anything but I know this is not a good time for them to be changing anything. As for getting married, I haven’t found any suitable candidates yet and no, I don’t want any kids.” I replied coldly.

My response hit him like a sucker punch to the gut. He put one hand against the couch to steady himself. He took a step back and looked toward the floor. “You don’t mean that, you can’t really mean that.” He said softly.

I crossed my arms, holding my ground. “I was married once; we saw how well that worked out. I’m not a good wife, wasn’t cut out for it. I can’t imagine trying to undertake the job of being a mother.” I answered honestly.

He swallowed hard and walked away from me. I stood there, my words echoing in my head. I hadn’t said them to be mean, but they had caused just as much pain. I couldn’t say anything else. I got my purse and the dogs and I left. I drove back to my own house and suffered in the emptiness of it. I knew I needed to apologize but I wasn’t sure for what exactly. I was sorry if I had led him on but I wasn’t sorry for telling him my intentions. He needed to know.

I managed to stay away for a few hours before slinking back to his side of town just after dark. I opened the front door a crack and listened carefully. Silence. The dogs pushed the door open and went running in. They picked up the trail and found him lying on the couch. He petted and rubbed each of them as them jumped on the couch, stepping on him and licking him. I watched a few feet from the love scene, tossing my purse into the chair, not saying anything. He eyed me from under the mountain of fur.

“I guess these will have to be our babies then.” He said, a little choked up.

I completely lost my composure and joined the love pile. I cried into his chest.
“I’m so sorry to tell you like that, it was so mean, I should have told you a long time ago.”

He lifted my head up by my chin, “Tell me which part? That you don’t want kids or that I’m not a suitable husband?” He asked.

“The kids part,” I said through my tears, “I didn’t mean the husband part, well, I haven’t really thought about that.” I said.

I was snapped back into reality by my ringing cell phone. It was Kim on the caller ID.
She giggled on the other end, “I can’t talk long. Just wanted to tell you that I’m Mrs. Chesney now.” I heard Kenny mumbling in the background and she hung up before I could lace into her.

I put down the phone exasperated. Keith put his hand on my shoulder. “We’ve go to be at the airport at 2, are you packed?” He asked. We were leaving that afternoon for Australia. I made a few final additions to my bag. Keith laughed as he saw the amount of clothes I was bringing, reminding me we were only going for the weekend. I asked him about the time zone difference again. I had to figure out when to take my birth control pills, not wanting to miss any doses in Australia. I gave instructions to the house sitter who would be watching the dogs and bid them each goodbye. I tried not to mention Kim and Kenny during the ride to the airport. I didn’t want to rehash the conversation about us getting married. I hadn’t even answered his question about him being husband material and I didn’t want to either.

I slept most of the plane flight there. Keith woke me up shortly before we made our descent so I could change my clothes and try to freshen up before meeting his parents. I nervously smoothed my clothes and tried to apply mascara, not an easy task with turbulence. The plane landed and we got into the car that would drive us out to the Urban household. I fidgeted with my nails and makeup the whole ride. Keith assured me I looked great but I was still nervous about meeting the folks.

His parents came out of the house as the car pulled up. They hugged him warmly and he made my introduction. His mum hugged me and his dad gave me a gentle handshake. His brother and sister-in-law came over a short time later. I marveled at how well they all got along. I chatted openly with his mom and sister-in-law while we prepared a meal. We had a nice evening outside talking and joking until very late. We finally went to bed and as I snuggled down next to Keith he whispered in the dark, “I told you they would like you.”
The next two days flew by. Keith showed me the sights of the farm where they used to live. We had a barbeque the last night we were in town. His parents invited their friends as did his brother. I sipped an Aussie beer on the patio while I watched a group of kids run around playing. Keith sidled up next to me, putting his arm around my waist. I put my head on his shoulder. “I like it here, I like your family, and I even like you a little” I said jokingly, giving him a little kiss.
“Good, I like you a little bit too.” He replied.
We excused ourselves from the party, having to get up early for our flight. In his room I raised my arms so he could slip my sundress over my head. I peeled his tee shirt off and unzipped his khaki pants. We made love quietly, as quiet as possible on a squeaky antique bed.

We said goodbye to his family and set off for the airport the next morning. I tried to think of what I was going to say to Kim when we got home. I wanted to be happy for them, but I was so afraid of it not working out. Keith reminded me that what was done was done and there was nothing we could do about it. The flight was long and when we got back to Nashville we fell into bed. The next morning I trekked over the Chesney household with Keith in tow. I had disguised it as a trip to Starbucks but we got lost along the way and somehow ended up at their house. Keith and Kenny went into the sports lounge to congratulate each other while I lectured Kim. It fell on deaf ears and she was so happy and glowing I couldn’t be mad for long.
She wanted to talk about other things. “So how was Oz?”
She kept looking at my hands in a weird way so I put them into my pockets.
“It was fun, his family was so nice.” I said.
“Did anything happen?” she asked expectantly.
“Not really, what do you mean?” I said confused.
“Nothing, I’m glad you had a good time. We are going to St. Johns for a few days. My cell phone works there so if anything happens call me.” She said.
“I think that ring is cutting off the blood flow to your brain Kim. You are not making any sense.” I said.

She smiled knowingly and shook her head. The boys returned from their apparent strategy meeting and I congratulated Kenny. As I hugged him I gripped the back of his neck before he let go and whispered, “Hurt her again and I swear I’ll cut your toes off.”

He laughed as he pulled away from me, “I guess I’ll behave, I might need to count to twenty.”

I told Kim to behave herself in the islands. She said she would and pulled the waistband of her jeans down a little to show me her birth control patch. “Thank god” I said as we left.

[> [> 4 -- kennedypratt, 01:52:05 01/29/06 Sun [1]

They spent the next week down there in the islands and Keith and I settled back into our Nashville life. I was only working three days a week and the rest of my time was spent with him before he had to go back out on the road. I was looking forward the time he would be recording and not traveling as much. Our time in the past few days had not been as much fun as normal because I wasn’t feeling good. I had been tired and really sick to my stomach no matter what I ate.

Finally I went to my doctor, fearing I had picked up a parasite from something I ate in Australia. I mentioned the recent trip to her as I already looked up potential parasites on the internet, recommending test to her. She smiled as she read the chart and reviewed my symptoms. “Any chance you are pregnant?”
“No”, I replied. “Well, I guess there is always a chance but I am very careful. I doubt it is that, I’m thinking it is a liver fluke.” I answered.

“Well, let’s do a pregnancy test just to be sure you are not.” She said.

I rolled my eyes as I tried to put a sample in the cup. This was such a waste of time. A parasite was eating me up and they think I’m just plain ‘ole knocked up. I was sure I would end up in a medical journal with this parasite.

I swung my feet back and forth and they dangled off the edge of the exam table. I tapped my fingers nervously as I waited for the test results. Finally the doctor came back in, “Well, it was as we suspected.”
“What? Is it a parasite? Is it a liver fluke?” I asked.
“No, you are pregnant.” She replied.
“That can’t be. Your test is wrong.” I said.
“We’ll send some blood off, but you had a strong positive, it’s very accurate.” She said.
“You can send off what ever you want, I know that I’m not pregnant.” I said as I put my clothes back on. She smiled and handed me a box of prenatal vitamins.
“Be sure to take these, eat well and get lots of rest.” She said.
I snatched the box from her and marched out of the exam room.

I drove furiously to the pharmacy and bought eight pregnancy tests. Eight was my lucky number. I called Kim from my cell phone; they had just come back from St. Johns a few days ago. “Kim, I’ve got to come over. Are you alone?”
“Yeah, Kenny had a meeting. What’s wrong?”
“We’ll see when I get there.” I replied.
I paid the confused looking clerk and took my boxes of fate with me. When I got to Kim’s house I told her the whole story about the doctor. She laughed and hugged me and said, “That is so great.”
“No it’s not great, and I’m not even sure it’s true. I am going to take every one of these tests and you are going to read them. I need a big glass of water.” I said.

Over the next hour I proceeded to drink a gallon of water and take eight pregnancy tests. Kim laid them all out on the kitchen counter in a row. Each one was positive in its own unique way. There were plus signs, very clear pink lines, and the most annoying electronic stick the blinked ‘pregnant’. I sat on stool in disbelieve. I must have miscounted the hours during our trip and not taken a pill on time. Kim tried to reassure me that this was a good thing and that she and Kenny had decided to try as well. She hugged me, “we can be fat together, and it will be fun.”
I had to smile; the image of those two with a baby was almost too much to take. Kenny returned to from his meeting and surveyed the science project in the kitchen. Kim quickly shook her head no before he could say anything, she pointed to me. He teased me, “oh my god, you’re carrying Keith Urban’s love child.” He pointed and poked my stomach, “have any idea how big you are going to get?”
I pushed him away gently and smiled. Despite my shock over the day’s events I was beginning to feel a strange excitement, a new energy. I needed to go home and tell Keith the news. I felt bad that his friends knew before him. Kim and Kenny both hugged me before I left and told me everything would be fine. I tried to believe them. When I got back to Keith’s house he was waiting for me. “What did the doctor say? Do you have a parasite?” He asked concerned.
“Yep, it is a parasite all right.” I replied.
“What are they going to do about it?” He asked.
“Well, she said that I need to take vitamins, eat well, get lots of rest and it will work it self out in about nine months.” I said.
He gave me a confused look.

Kennedy, you really had me going, girl! It's not time for babies, it's not even time for a wedding and luckily you know that,at least, I think you know that...LOL! Babies are beautiful, babies are cute, babies are noisy and they smell really great sometimes and sometimes not so great, babies can bring couples together and they can tear couples apart...You and Keith are having so much fun right now just as a couple; too much fun to rock the boat just yet...

Not sure how I feel about babies so I had to have some type of escape in this story. It's kind of hard to write a baby out a story without causing to much controversy. Plus I don't really need some half-aussie brunette running around with a daddy who is always on tour.
