Long Island chiming in here, when I was a kid, it was 77 WABC most of the time..but, we also listened to WMCA, and to WINS (I can still hear that jingle "1010 Wins New York!"). When the Beatles hit, we'd surf around on the radio, going from station to station looking for their tunes.
And, as previously posted, I also remember listening to WCBS 880, particularly "Music 'Til Dawn", with my small crystal radio that I would sneak with me into bed each night.
When I got older, that radio pulled in the late, great Jean Shepherd on WOR 710.
FM didn't come into my universe until sometime in the early 70's.
