(He hated that she felt she had to find a way to 'put this mildly' - as though she were about to say something she knew would either hurt him deeply or piss him off pretty bad. Even so, he could see the emotion running over her face and silenty ran his thumb over her knuckles in a reassuring manner - despite his behavior sometimes, he was a big boy and could take it. If they didn't have honesty then they didn't have much in his opinion. He tipped his head as he picked out the subtle emotions traveling over her beautiful features. He loved that he could read Shay so easily, making it easy to see what she was feeling to back up her words.. it was almost like having a conversation in 3D.. he could pick up so many dimensions of her mood. Although her words left him feeling a little hollow, they also left him thoughtful, a fact made obvious by the way he tucked the corner of his lips between his teeth and his jaw shifted every few moments. He supposed he had become complacent in their marraige.. banking on her love and support and not realizing just how much his actions and attitudes affected their small family. Of course it hurt to realize that she felt that way.. that he had let things slip again and wasn't behaving the way he should.. but she had a way of delivering a blow like that that made him thoughtful instead of hurt or angry. His eyes shifted over her features as he shook his head.) Not selfish. You're right. I've let things go and I am so sorry.. (He said with the full effect of his simple honesty, he had nothing to hide from her, not here in the safety of their bedroom, with their son and their love between them. He shifted his body a bit, wincing as he pulled at the damned contraption on his leg, it often got hung up on the covers and he rarely had a night when he didnt pull at it too sharply.) I'm not going anywhere.. despite the obvious danger of my work, I took the commanding position to keep myself out of the field, for us. I'm not going to leave you, I promise that. (And he could, even God knew better than to try and take his life.. he'd raise a stink so big he was bound to be put back just to return peace to the heavens.) I do what I do because I care about us.. I know how I would feel if you were in danger and no one tried to save you, Shay.. and it makes it damn near impossible to step aside when danger arises.. I couldn't let Kyrian go in there alone.. not worrying the way he was, he was irrational at best. (He looked uncomfortable for a moment, then shifted to wrap his massive hands around Chase's ribs, smiling a little as the boy's features split into an anticipatory smile as he reached his hands out for his Dad. He brought Chase close, settling him against his broad chest so he could lay on his stomach and tipping his head as he brushed those dark curls back.) You guys are all that matters to me. (he murmured as he looked over at her, resting a hand over Chase's back to steady him and nodding for her to come cuddle too.)
